Some days a shot of 100 proof is called for. Usually I will go for a refreshing lager when I have a rough day.

It’s been mentioned already but there’s something about drinking your first pint of Guinness in a Dublin pub especially at this time of year.

Not a beer I actually drink that much of these days but still always have that feeling of anticipation when I’m waiting for it to settle, especially in a place with 5 or 10 other pints sitting beside it!

Always wondered if there's a difference between what you get and what's on tap here.

Personally I think the liquid in the glass usually tastes more or less the same anywhere I’ve had it - people in Ireland will have great discussions around the Guinness quality between bars on the same street let alone different countries!

I think a lot comes down to the feel of the bar - in a proper old traditional bar with an open fire it generally tastes a lot better than in a new bar with no real character. And of course if it’s serving lots of Guinness what you’re drinking is always going to be fresh so has to help.

A good DIPA with a sharp, hoppy bite out of the gate seems to divert my mind and attitude away from whatever shit life has dished out that day.

Like a beer drinkers smelling salt....awakening you to the pleasantries of life.

I had two pints at the brewery on Bloomsday in 1993. I know that there were a lot of things going for it but between the fresh beer, perfect pour and temp, those pints were hard to beat.

There is no comparison to the fresh Guinness I enjoyed in Dublin/ across the countryside and those we get here.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Easy drinking and readily available and if it's the weekend I love to start it with a KBS. The ultimate breakfast and a great start the the all day buzz.

Interesting question. I think out of all of them it would be Founders Backwoods Bastard for me.

New guy bringing this thread back. For me, lately, my happy-place is the Feeling Hazy NE-IPA from 2 Row Brewing in Midvale Utah. Even better when its from a growler at a campfire after a good day biking or hiking.

We've all had 'em and won't be the last time for any of us. 'go to' left the door wide open ... For me - retreat to my guitar, maybe a woodworking project, an extra workout, or if all else fails ... pull something from my cellar and usually something barrel aged. :sunglasses:

As mentioned by some others, I don’t have a single go to. Something from my regular rotation is always in the back of the kitchen fridge.

However I also keep a small stock of special beers I know I enjoy (eg RR Temptation) on hand to help to make those really rotten days better.

Victory's Prima Pils. It's just a practically flawless beer to my taste buds... Incredible noble hop quality, clean as can be, super crisp. Everytime I drink that beer, i'm a happy man.
