For those drinking beer for more than a handful of years, you have seen breweries gain distribution in your area, and then they leave for one reason or another...maybe never to return. Often times it comes down to brand/brewery simply not moving the units. Other times not. Then there the instances where brands come in strong with a full portfolio then dissolve into a few SKUs.

Anyway, what breweries do you dearly miss that were once distributed to your area?

Avery distributed to Maryland for awhile, but only certain areas in the state. I wasn't living in those areas so I had to travel to get any. Then they stopped distribution for awhile. Now, they're back and more widely available, so there's that. I've only had a handful of their offerings, but I'm glad they're back.

It's almost astonishing, but Three Floyds pulled out of Philadelphia many years ago. I was a big fan of the Alpha King on tap. They never came back. Maybe we drink too much beer here and they can't keep up! It's been said that Philadelphia drinks more Belgian beer than Brussels, and I have no doubt about that.

3-4 years ago, I could get Clown Shoes in Birmingham. Then they disappeared but I could still get it in Atlanta. When I was in Atlanta a few weeks ago, there was none on the shelves at the 2 stores I visited. I miss their barrel-aged stouts and barleywines.

Story as I've been able to unravel it is that Three Floyds pulled out because of increasing demand in their home market and I'd guess they've never come back simply because they don't have the capacity.

On a trip to Indiana not too many years ago I stopped three places to look for it. Nothing at two. Also nothing at the third, when I asked the near by clerk if by any chance that had it but not out, his reply was "No, this is not Indianapolis." So it's not even available through out Indiana.

Not that their stuff was ever all over the place in my area, but I haven't seen anything from Sly Fox in quite a while. Or Stoudt's.

There was a period there (late 90s-early 00s?) when some of their beers were being contract-brewed at August Schell (New Ulm, MN):

In NJ, it wasn't exactly "then nothing" - I remember stray sixpacks of "Robert the Bruce" Scottish Ale hanging around well after they left the state, getting dusty on bottom shelves..

Dark Horse. Plead the 5th and Double Crooked Tree sold fine but their core brands did not which is why they pulled out of NC I imagine.

Yeh, I’m just a bit pissed at them for neglecting to come back here now that they seem to have added capacity.

Allagash in South Central PA. It's still sold in other PA regions, but not in mine. I also see it in MD. On the flipside though we finally got Fat Head's this year.

Deschutes, and specifically their Jubeale here in Michigan. I went to an introductory party when they first started distributing here, and Jubeale was on tap. We still get some of their stuff, but not that beer. Maybe the east side of the state sees it, but I don't.

I imagine this may have changed in recent years. It used to be a rare occasion to see FFF here in western KY, these days I can always reliably find Alpha King, Space Station, Gumballhead, Necron 99, as well as some of their 22oz offerings.

That's a good price. Most of their sixers cost $13 or $14 here. More for Zombie Dust.

    Cheers
