I don't recall seeing jubelale on this side of the state either, though I'm not in the same distribution footprint as Detroit. Mostly fresh squeezed, black butte and mirror pond. Odd that they'd leave a seasonal beer out, usually those sell well.

From my understanding, tall grass may be going out of business (or at least not distributing anymore) unfortunate, the couple beers I've tried were pretty good.

FWIW I’m almost certain I saw Jubeale up in the Traverse City area a couple days ago.

This topic remind me of the old chestnut: “Q: What happens when you play a Country song backward?” (“A: You get your girl back, you get your truck back, you get your dog back.”)

Allagash, Geary’s, Hair Of The Dog . . . Just for starters (heck, why not add Bert Grant’s, too!). But after thinking of those few I just sorta get weepy for the olden days when there weren’t 175,000 breweries, so I hope you’ll pardon me if I go off in the corner and mumble quietly to myself.

I didn't know they ever distributed that far - I kind of assumed they weren't found outside of New England. They host a lot of contract brewing so I wonder if the economics of brewing enough for "far flung" distribution have become less attractive than renting out that capacity to others.

At any rate, that sucks that you were teased with their oatmeal stout. It is awesome stuff indeed!

Yes it is, and it's precisely the kind of thing that's lacking around here, too, sadly enough. :slight_frown:

We're certainly not overflowing with them either so it's great they're still around. They even started putting them in handsome boxed 6 packs of cans recently. Sometimes they offer a coffee version at the brewery but otherwise they've left it alone and not given in to the urge of going variant happy.

A brewery that did not have distro here but now does is Sweetwater. I remember bringing cases home from TN years ago. I thought the IPA was really good. Back then it was just 3-4 states of distribution. Now that we get it for a few years I have made One or two purchases.

We get Fat Heads now too and that was always a want when the Ohio kids came for a visit. Since it’s been in PA I have made zero purchases.

    Enjoy

    Theakston
    Harpoon
Anchor, used to have a decent amount of beers available around here but now is reduced to two SKUs.
Allagash left my area about 8 years ago.
We had FFF during the summer of '95, briefly.

I'm sure there are others if I really think about it.

Summit Brewing used to distribute in my area (SEPA) but they decided to pull out. I was particularly a fan of their relatively new beer of Keller Pils. I really wish they would reconsider and come back.

    @summitbeer

    Cheers!

I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but Clown Shoes was bought by Harpoon in 2017. I live in MA and I don't see it that often around here anymore at my local stores.

Young's Oatmeal Stout, New River Pale Ale, Rheingold, Andeker, Encore, National Premium, and maybe Redcap Ale. Lowenbrau from Munich was head and shoulders above all other locally distributed beer.

I was struggling to think of one, but Bear Republic is definitely missed in SWPA. Not sure if the Philly market still sees BR or not, though

Speaking of Keller Pils I used to love Southampton Keller Pils. I don't remember when they pulled out, but I haven't seen Southampton in SWPA for quite a while.

A friend at work recently lamented over Lowenbrau disappearing around here years ago, so I looked into it for him last week. Lowenbrau was brewed in Germany for hundreds of years, then Miller started importing it to the US in 1975, then in 1977 bought the rights to brew it in the US to their own different recipe. In 1999 Labatt took it over, then dropped it in 2002. After that, the only Lowenbrau is the original German recipe - whether brewed in Germany or Canada. The Canadian Lowenbrau has been criticized as inferior to the German Lowenbrau, though brewed to the same recipe. I doubt that many Lowenbrau fans from the 80's and 90's have had the original or would like it - but it is available in the US.
