I really thinks they're just making tons of BA stuff now. Their expansion project, distillery, and current warehouse space must be large enough to where the investment in BA beers is worth the return even after the bottles are on sale for much longer than before.

So maybe tons of BA beer on sale for weeks is more profitable even at a slower return than their old barrel program model

And as I mentioned before, they are only brewing at half capacity and with that being said, their flagships are more available than ever so use their remaining capacity on more of that and not exclusives they can charge more for?

3 Floyds is business savvy. Increased the price of their beer. Revamped the food menu to make dishes more expensive by adding a side salad or fries to it. DLD 18 was clearly run as a money grab.

I personally would love to see this be the new FFF. BA releases left and right along with increased availability.

The demand probably wont be high.. regular BOTS should almost be discontinued for its price point and black IPA characteristics

However I'll be there Saturday if this lasts

Yeah, I just figured it lost a lot of the bright hop flavors that make regular great in the barrel unless they dry hopped it afterwards.

Early Untappd scores look promising for BA BOTS.

But these are also the same people that labeled army of hops a milkshake IPA and had tons of people commenting "this doesnt seem like a milkshake IPA to me."

I like some haze but then haze craze having people confusing lactose with haze shows the adolescent stage of the style and its consumers.

Personally not a fan of regular BOTS. When I first had it years ago it was my all time #1 beer. As my palate changed and it had the hoppy roast of a confused black IPA to go with a dry isopropyl finish, my opinion changed.

The beer sometimes has an amazing mouthfeel and that initial hop burst can be nice. Other batches have been fusel to say the least.

    Excited for the BA

Even at a premium price point, I have a hard time understanding why the regular Blot Out the Sun sits on shelves. In my opinion, its gold medal from GABF is justified. It's unique, hop-centric, the distilled essence of FFF. Pushes the boundary between a stout and a black IPA, but it's a delicious beer that also ages very well.

Like Zombie Dust, the first batch of BOTS was amazing and none of the batches since have lived up to it...

Can't believe no one beat me to it.

Crack the sky is NOT Barrel aged, even if the wax and glitter is.

BA lists it as "Coffee Barrel aged stout"
Untappd lists it as "a blend of barrel aged RIS, fresh RIS, Dark matter coffee and vanilla"
The bottle says "Please tell Lucifer he can't have this one"

I think they used to before they distro it.

To be honest, it was just a joke because we always go in circles on this. It is 100% not BA, but the beans are, and it always gets confusing for people. Some people taste absolutely zero Barrel while others tastes...some.

I was up there when it was initially released and was never waxed. However the glass bottle was blown out of 65 billion year old sand pebbles from what is now Greece

This is accurate. The debate over this beer never ends, but the short answer is that it is partially barrel aged. Pretty sure @prior2two asked FFF on social media and they confirmed this.

Not only does it never end, they have now thrown another debate as to whether it was waxed or not into the equation (it wasn't).

So what was the logic of blending a BA stout with fresh? Was there too much barrel and they had to dumb it down with fresh? Just marketing as in they had one barrel left of BA stout and figured they could make more if they blended it with 50 other barrels and could say it contained BA stout? It just doesn't make sense that someone would water down a barrel aged beer given the cost and time commitments associated with it, but the description you list is the same from the FFF site.
