    Victory Hip Czech Lager

Evening, BAs. Enjoying a couple of these and some Sunday Night Football.

It’s clear pale yellow with good effervescence and a finger of near-white head that leaves pretty rings of lacing.

Grassy, floral hops, biscuity malt and some sulfur in the nose.

It has a nice clean taste in keeping with the aroma, and just enough bitterness to keep it punchy.

    Lightly creamy feel.

This is an all-around excellent pilsner perfect for watching sports from the couch. Super drinkable and refreshing, and from one of my all-time favorite breweries.

I added this brew to the database this morning cu I knew I was going to review it. However it appears my beer is a variant of the original beer and it is late and I am a bit drunk so I won’t revise my post today. Anyway the beer is Bourbon barrel aged empress rising German chocolate cake from Birds Fly South brewing. In short this shit is fantabulous. 10/10 would recommend.

One of the true pleasures of the BIF's I've participated in is the depth of the beers you get from a particular area. Everything isn't a whale - it's the "core" beers that define any beer scene, IMHO, which is why the stuff you sent me a couple of BIF's ago was so great. Just a great depth and variety of beer from the PNW.

    Whoa!

    11.2 oz. bottle.
Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch extremely light tan head over a hazy reddish amber body with some nice, sticky lacing. Nose of very slight funk, slight citrus, plenty of sherry oak, sour grapes, and some sort of spice; cloves? Taste mirrors nose at times as the aromas and flavors are changing as it warms. Grapefruit, for one, comes forward after a while, replacing what little funk there was, but the oak still stands firm. Wonderfully complex with a real nice mouthfeel. Overall, one worth seeking out. Cheers to the Swiss for another unique and complex offering!

You did pretty good, but missing the leather and tobacco. I revisited that beer probably 8 times since 2015, it was an amazing transformation. It's basically a sweeter version of Expedition.

And, when you hit me with that Central State Brett Pale Ale? Likely the best "summertime" beer I've ever had.

4.5abv, and perfect for tubing, sitting by the shore, boating the San Juans......

Great beer. Wish a brewery near me would clone that biznezzzz!

Wow, what a fantastic day!?! I seem to be able to pick 'em & it was nice to have yinz along for the ride, 'n' 'at! I looked at my planned second half of the day & decided to wrap it up early. The first, following my hiatus, was:

Hey all, my first new one today is Black Currant Stout from Saint Boniface out of Ephrata, PA. It’s an imperial stout brewed with black currant purée clocking in at 8.5% ABV per it’s BA listing, and the can has a pretty great portrait of a black bear with some currants in its mouth-

The beer pours black lightening to a dark rubyish brown around the edges. It’s dark brown head dissipates slowly to a thin film and it leaves rings of lacing.

The flavor and nose both start out with some slightly burnt char, which lends some bitterness to the taste. There’s also dark chocolate, a hint of smoke and a little sweetness that’s like vanilla. I did not get any black currant in the nose at first, but it shows itself beautifully towards the end of the flavor as a cranberry-like subtle juicy tartness that’s also a bit sweet. After I taste the currants, I can pick it up in the nose as well.

The feel of the beer is medium bodied and there’s moderate carbonation. Finish is semi-dry and there’s just a little lingering bitterness and sweetness. It’s surprisingly refreshing and easy to drink for a bigger ABV beer.

Over all this was a fantastic stout with really smooth malt flavors that lead really nicely into the subtle juicy sweetness of the currants. Well done, Saint Boniface!

Cheers, all. I hope to be back soon with one or two more.

I could have written this. Enjoying beer is always paramount when drinking beer. All of the jaded palates seek ever better and parce nuance to the bone. I love to taste great beer and remark on it, but it is way back in the line in my approach to loving beer for a lifetime.

I think this is my last bottle bestowed to me from @Yabey. It was a killer box that I took my time to work through. Thanks again!

    Cigar City- Common Fate

Pours deep mahogany, finger of light brown head dissipates quickly to a collar of fine bubbles. Nose is chocolate, whiskey, caramel. It settles to more cocoa and fruit as the glass sits.
Taste is overwhelmingly whiskey to start, light notes of chocolate, coffee, raisin. Some heat finishes with woody whiskey notes. As it warms the whiskey flavors soften and blend.
Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Very smooth.
At first, this beer was alot to take in, to be honest I was really on the fence about it at first. Though like many great beers, it became very smooth and nuanced as I spent time with it.

Moderate pour yields a one inch tan head over a dark brown body with some lacing. The bubbles won't stop feeding the ring around the now dissipated head. The head, after 1/2 an hour now, comes back big time with a swirl or two. Fantastic nose of cocoa, chocolate, and dark fruit. Taste of chocolate, dark fruit (cherry, mostly), slight coffee, and tannins from the red wine barrels. As it warms, the tannins lessen somewhat leaving a chocolate/cherry flavor that just won't quit. Nice feel and overall, what a real nice red wine barrel aged stout. Get it, you fools!

My next new one is South County’s Painting With Light-

The beer’s an opaque brown-tinged light gold (it looks darker in the photo than it actually is). It’s got a soapy head that leaves tons of lacing.

The nose and flavor are citrusy with tangerine and lemon zest, along with a bit of grape candy and vanilla. The flavor has a bit of an herbal quality that also lends a little bitterness. Straight out of the fridge, the nose had interesting must- and bleu cheese like notes, but these went away as the beer warmed a bit.

The feel is medium-light, and the beer has a slightly sweet finish.

Overall, it’s an enjoyable citrusy DIPA.

    Block 15
    Cosmic Cold Brew

Another pitch black coffee stout mirroring its heated beverages influence. Clean but dark, with an appropriate espresso froth resting above. Like a properly streamed latte, this leaves ring after ring of foam residue.

The aroma is all cold brew. Slowly stepped and intense beans. Hints of dark chocolate and burnt edges of toasted cinnamon rolls minus the icing.

Less coffee than expected in the flavor. Light roast dominated by semi sweet chocolate chips and a sweet dinner roll breadiness. An earthy dirty hop slap in the finish.

Even the texture aligns with a fresh brewed latte. Smooth with a touch of creaminess and a robust charred bitter bite on the end. Well balanced and full figured, this beer.

A very easy drinking beer. Like a perfect blend of milk and coffee stouts. Well made, as expected by this wonderful brewery from our friends down south.

After my official review, I gave Cosmic Cold Brew a rating of 4.21 with an rDev of +2.2%.

    Cheers.
