Finally getting around to a new one today. I put the 'pro' in procrastinator as I finally dug the Christmas stuff out of the attic, took the boys to get a tree, and let them decorate it. My little one begged to sleep by it tonight so me being the pushover that I am let him.
On to the beer, received this one from a very generous box in last year's Super Bowl pool from @alwaysplayin and it cellared quite well.

Poured a dark brown/almost black with a finger of khaki head.
Smells of dark roast, vanilla, bourbon, oaky.
Taste follows with the dark roast, some dark fruit, the bourbon barrel is light, vanilla, and oak.
A bit thin but super smooth, no heat.
My second FW beer and overall it was quite tasty!

Happy New Beer Sunday everyone. I've been laying off the beer lately so that I can drop some lbs. Today I am going to try and enjoy a couple of new beers

The first is from Sloop Brewing - Juice Bomb There is no irony in the Name and it is exactly what you think it was.

The name says it all. Hazy as hell. The nose is orange, grapefruit and Mango. The taste is tangerine and over ripe Mango. Just enough bitterness to make it interesting. Would be glad to drink it again and again.

Happy Late New Beer Sunday everyone!

This gem I’m sharing with you all tonight is from both @2beerdogs AND @Bum4ever . Derek and Josh (Who are both incredible BAs) both sent me one. The other one will be forwarded on to some unsuspecting soul....

Anywho-enough rambling for me . On to the beer.

    And my humble review

Josh and Derek many thanks for this fine opportunity!

    Cheers all!

    Hello Late Night NBS!!!
Thanks for the "uplifting" start @cjgiant.
I'm a bit jaded when it comes to what I see as too much "sunny" weather. So, I long for winter. It finally gives us here a respite from the consummate hot to warm doldrums. Recently, we've actually had some cooler weather, and I thrive in it. Some of my former students, and many of my colleagues, were amazed to see me wear a coat for a few days. It got down into the high 40's at night, and we had to be outside for about an hour in the morning. I figured I should be an example to my students. Sadly, I got too warm, and had to take my coat off about 15 minutes in. I teach in a predominantly Latino area, and it blows many a mind in the community. They think I am an alien. They bundle their kids up like the Michelin man when the thermometer drops into the low 60's. Now I know that for many of you fine folks, the 40's is nothing to raise an eyebrow at. I'm right there with you. But to many of my SoCal friends, well, they have a very limited perspective on what cold truly is.

Anyway, so here is a GABF gold medal winner. I was surprised it wasn't in the database, but I put it in. I thought it was pretty good, but...

New England Style Double IPA by Black Market Brewing Co. in Temecula, CA

    here's the brewer's page:
    https://blackmarketbrew.com/beer/detail/the-gold-can

And for those who care what I thought:

    Poured from 12 oz can.
Opaque golden color. Has a kind of dull hue. Fluffy white head rises shy of 3 inches. Settles to a nice soapy layer that leaves some cloudy patches of lacing.
Smells of peach, kumquat, lemon blossoms, some grassy notes, crackery malt, and finally a smattering of weed. A lot going on. None of it overpowering, and spotlight seems shared, wafting back and forth between these notes.
Flavor is almost juicy. It meanders in that direction, bringing some peach, melon, dry grassy notes that give way to an ever so subtle nod to grapefruit that wanted to be pithy, but changed its mind at the last moment, and instead leaves a slow gentle earthy bitterness.
Moderate carbonation tapers off. Slightly slick. Medium bodied, and slightly fluffy.
Overall, for a gold medal winner at GABF, I guess I was expecting a bit more. Definitely a good NE DIPA. No canning date, but my bottle shop just got it in, so I'm assuming its a recent release. It does have the new can showing the gold medal on the silhouetted man, so it has to be at least from October. I'll leave this decent rating for now, with the goal of getting out to Temecula to try it at the source.

Looks like I’m making it in a little under the wire tonight!

Back in the fall of 2017 I took a trip to Vermont with my oldest and closest friend. Our friendship goes back to about 1982/83. We’ve lived in different locales since 1999 but still manage to get together a couple times a year. The trip to Vermont was our first beer trip together. As he lives in Montreal, he tends to get down to the Green Mountain State several times a year. It had been about 6 or 7 years for me.

We ended up hitting 15 different breweries over that weekend. Today’s beer isn’t from our favorite from the trip (that was Four Quarters), but it is from the brewery where we ended the Saturday night on their great patio. Foam Brewers of Burlington.

I’ve liked everything I’ve had from foam, so was expecting great things from this one, Distopian Dream Girl IPA

Can received in trade. About one month from canning. Received about 1.5 weeks ago, but my lingering cold made me wait on it.

Pours a dull and opaque yellow/orange. Light head. No lacing. Not the prettiest beer.

The aroma popped on pour. Bubble gum, broad spectrum tropical notes.

Nice bitterness on the tongue with notes of grapefruit, mango. Very slightly dank.

A little on the thin side for me, but not what I’d call watery.

Enjoyable IPA, but I’ve had better from Foam. Perhaps a month is a long to wait on this can.

    Cheers.

My last new one this week is Dark Lord from Three Floyds. Full disclosure- I drank about half of it last night, but am finishing the bottle up now.

The beer is black fading to dark walnut brown around the edges. There’s no head, just a thin ring of tiny bubbles around the side of the glass. (It looked like that right after opening the bottle last night, too). No lying.

Right off the bat, the nose has what I think a lot of people describe as soy sauce, but it always reminds me of Elmer’s School Glue. As the beer warms, it fades away, but doesn’t disappear completely. There’s also intense sweet chocolate fudge and a little smoke.

The flavor is sweet chocolate fudge, light smoke, and vanilla. Fortunately, the glue in the nose comes off as a mild tanginess towards the end.

Feel is full bodied and sticky, almost phlegm-like.

Overall, this was fun to drink, and I certainly enjoyed the chance to try a modern-day classic, but that gluey note in the nose and the intense sweetness of the flavor turned me off a bit.

Another new one for me This is from Rushing Duck - Irrational Numbers It is a jacked up version of their Divided by Zero.
It is definitely on the bitter side and, for me, that is a positive

Poured from a can that was canned 2 days ago.
Pours a light yellow haze. Smells of grapefruit and oranges. Taste has a bit more bitter edge than I expected. Plenty of grapefruit rind. A little bit hot because of the 9%. Another great beer from RD.

Standard hazy appearance. The nose is guava melon and papaya. On the front end the taste is sweet fruits-papaya, melon overripe peaches. On the back end there is some rindy bitterness and alcohol heat. It all plays together very nicely. This is way more interesting than your run of the mill NEIPA.

Poured from a growler that was sent to me by the great and wonderful @FlintB
    A: Pours a deep dark mahogany, like the hair of an Italian girl that you dream about. A small but thick tan head that recedes to a ring but hangs around for the entire time in the glass;
N: Melted butterscotch and boozy caramel sauce. the nose is screaming for vanilla ice cream.
T: Cocoa and coffee. A hint of sweetness. As it warms there is more coffee and some bitterness.
MF: Boozy but not hot. Just enough sweetness to offset the bittersweet chocolate. A very full mouthfeel. All though it is boozy it is an easy drinker.
O: I will admit that I am partial to Founders big stouts. This one is no exception. A wonderful stout. I keep seeing comparisons to KBS and CBS but this one is very different.hread was started.

Thank you @FlintB for sending me this wonderful beer. Your generosity is incredible.

That beer looks great in that glass! I wasn't able to participate yesterday, but saw this post this morning. Great job, and I really love that one too. There's a spiciness that I haven't been able to parse yet, whether it's hops or maybe some rye- it looks like you picked it up too, as an anise like flavor. But it's very well incorporated and complementary to the beer, which is all for the better, imo.

    Glad you enjoyed it!
