Seemed like everything was still on when I left and place was basically dead. Would bet lunch or even maybe dinner tomorrow would still work out.

Ah shit, you were there? I was sitting on the stool at the far end of the bar when the place opened.

Almost split a bottle of Reserve with the guy to my left, but they were gone by the time we tried (they had 8, for $40 a piece). Had 2 8 oz pours of Prop; I can safely say that imo Midnight Orange should've been this year's Prop (and I prefer it). Prop is basically that minus the orange.

Vanilla is the vanilla bomb that everyone said; I prefer it to Vanilla Deth, but I always prefer flavor slaps to the face to well-integrated, more thoughtful beers, ha.

shoutout to @TigerDriver91 for bringing this one to my attention

Guess I am catching up on not posting much recently.

For me, it's not a flavor slap. It's present enough that every sip that I take, I say, "Oh, that vanilla is nice."

Jackie Os makes great beers, but all of their beers with flavoring, by contrast, are so nuanced that I'm not sure that they should be called that flavor. For example, their black maple is so light on the maple that I feel like you kind of have to search for it. If you werne't told that there was maple there, I'm not sure you'd really know.

I want the name to reflect what I taste.

I also understand that palates are different. So, while Vanilla was not the ONLY thing that I taste, I understand that for others it might be.

I have this experience with 90% of stouts where the 2nd half of the bottle is much more nuanced the next day. I wonder if straight up decanting these over night benefits them by removing some of the carbonation which doesn't add any flavor and may mask it a bit.

Finally tried the vanilla last night. I liked it but I expected more. I've dropped a lot of vanilla beans in a regular BCBS and this tastes EXACTLY the same. Going to revisit another bottle in a few months I think. The rest might end up getting traded, just not worth $25/bottle, so far anyway.

Binnys in Mokena still seemed to have cases of it sitting on the floor. Is that weird?

I happened to hit 3 Binnys this weekend - Orland Park, South Loop and LP and they all had cases of regular out on the floor. Should be pretty easy to get again this year.

Ravenswood Mariano's had Bramble and Reg on tap today for those that need BCBS while grocery shopping this week.

For any wheatwine fans, Jewel on Desplaines has ~15 cases out front near the produce section.

To be fair, Vanilla BCS is literally BCS aged on vanilla beans, so your experiment worked perfect.

sort of. it is my understanding that after the pull it from barrels it is conditioned on shredded vanilla beans.

Its run back and forth through a tank that is filled with vanilla beans. Conditioning isn't quite the right word for it.
