No I did not, It was a quick in and out for a couple fills of RYM that I am bringing down to SD for a client appreciation shin dig tomorrow evening, I'm focusing more on great wines for the evening but there are a couple young architects that are big beer geeks that have never had Monkish but are always are asking me about it as they know I am a regular there, I can't wait to see their faces after all the wine is opened and I pull out a couple growlers of this:astonished: Tiss the season !

    Cheers,

Hey folks, it's been a while since I've been to Monks. I notice that Beyond Atomically is being released in cans today. Typically, would a beer like that be available the next day for growler fills?

It will definitely be on draft, but I doubt they will have growler fills for them. I forgot the release where they did have it available for growlers, but yeah, usually the release isn't available for fills. It could definitely come around as a 'freshie' though in the future. lol.

Are the lines not long enough these days that they are trying to bring awareness to a resale site in hopes it will help bring the lines back to their former glory?

Two things,One, I cannot believe Henry dropped this for growler fills, and two, this batch kicks up the Citra big time and the result is IMHO, better than the canned version. This is simply stunning, massive citrus fruits, uber creamy mouth and zero booze factor. Oh the Nelson in this batch is incredibly expressive as well. Amazing.

Tried Hiddenness this weekend. That thing is a sugar bomb and the rye keeps it in check. Sad that 2nd day of growler fills was basically a non-issue since it sold out before they opened (multiple people working there, Jairo especially, said line was like 100 deep at open).

Monkish's version of Resilience is pretty nice too. Love the mouthfeel on it. Enough that I grabbed one to go.

Just curious, how does rye keep the sweetness in check?

I didn't make the original comment, but since Rye Whiskey uses all grains, at least 51% rye, it tends to have a spicier character than Bourbon, which uses corn in the mash and can show a sweeter character.

Basically. The rye whiskey burn was pretty apparent, especially at it warmed, so the sweetness was mitigated that way. Similar to like...real cinnamon with no sugary taste. That was handled by the vanilla pretty handily.

I see. I didn't get any such burn from this beer. First off, it didn't come across as a sugar bomb the way some high gravity stouts do (ie Black Tuesday, BCBS, etc). I also didn't get any perceived heat from the alcohol or the barrel treatment despite it being a 15.5% beer.

Interesting! Maybe I got a weird portion of the keg? I definitely got sweetness.

The choice of rye over bourbon barrels was a good one as it didn't contribute any additional sweetness. I was just confused by how rye barrels would temper sweetness--as in, taking a sweet beer and reducing the perceived sweetness through rye barrel aging.
