    I know this a new beer ,
I'm just wondering how this one will age - At 10.2% abv I would think it would age well ..But then again who knows ?

    Thoughts?

Seems like a low risk (price wise) opportunity. I've stuck a couple 4 packs in the cellar to experiment with. I've really enjoyed the Ken and Fritz Imperial Stout lately. That one has aged wonderfully.

    Also Bigfoot....

No brainer. Do it. And if it doesn't age well, just decorate your house with the cool labels. Narwhal!

Hmm .. Just how long has Narwhal been brewed ?,

This is this first time I have seen it.. But ...I'm with you I think it will be great still in a year or two .

Sorry, just being a smartass. :stuck_out_tongue:

As you already acknowledged, there's really no way to know. Like libbey, though, I've had Fritz and Ken's Ale with some age on it and absolutely loved it. They're pretty similar beers in my mind -- big, hoppy and roasty stouts -- so I bet it would age well (and it's a better bargain than Fritz and Ken's, in my mind).

Narwhals typically age up to 50 years in the wild, but can get up to 100 in captivity.

Personally, I think it's drinking great right now without any overpowering alcohol flavors/scents. Sierra Nevada believes it should age well though: "Aggressive but refined with a velvety smooth body and decadent finish, Narwhal will age in the bottle for years to come."

Personally I just put a bottle in my cellar today, hopefully it holds up as well as their 30th anniversary stout.

If you've got the time, you've got the beer. To age. Being an elder, I don't have the time but I think Narwhal will do nicely.

Based on my own tastes, I think it's nearly perfect fresh and I don't see it benefiting much from aging (it's not too hot, too hoppy, or anything else). In fact, it kinda reminds me of the 2010 Stone IRS I had recently. Having said that, they're 10 for a 4-pack, and I'd be shocked if they went downhill within a few years, so I've got 4 in the cellar just to see what happens. As lots of folks have said, it's a low-cost, low-risk venture, so what the heck-give it a shot.

I suspect Narwhal will be awesome w/ some time.
Let some of those hops blend in and fade, leaving you w/one hell of a viscous brew.

    Enjoy

I threw a 4 pack down in the basement, why not? I plan to have an awesome vertical going ten years from now, nice to be able to start from the beginning.

Sierra Nevada beers have really never broken the bank compared to some other stouts.

Experiment and see what happens in a year cause I know I am

What can it hurt? Planning on putting a couple of bottles down myself.

I think every good RIS geneally prefers to have about a year on it. Just IMO.
