Gravitational Waves IPA from Conclave Brewing
    [IMG]
Grolwer filled 1 day prior poured into a beacher glass.
L: Pours a murky, hazy orange with a finger and a half of foamy white head with some mild lacing left around the glass.
S: Incredible juicy notes of mango, guava, and pineapple. Orange, grapefruit, lemon along with some floral, pine bready notes as well.
T: Juicy mango, pineapple, grapefruit and other citrus fruits with a creamy, smooth bitter pineyness on the finish. The bitterness lingers on the tounge for a bit.
F: Medium carbonation with a nice full, creamy mouthfeel that makes it feel like a bigger beer than it is.
O: Amazing IPA, so much juicy flavor with a nice hop bite on the finish

Excellent milk stout. Great dense head retention/soapy lacing. Looks nitro. Aromas and flavors of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, roasted nuts, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coffee, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, herbal/grassy hops, and yeast earthiness. Mild herbal/grassy hop and roasted bitterness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body. Very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel. Slight sticky hops, chalky roast, and increasing lingering bitter dryness. No cloying sweetness. Super smooth, 6%. Wow, really spot on stuff. Very rich malt complexity with balanced cocoa, vanilla, and lactose flavors; with just enough earthy hop presence against lingering sweetness. Not overly roasty. Loved it. 4.05

    Okay, a carrot cake beer.

    In a porter.

    That’s logical.

It looks like a porter, with a blackish pour supporting a tan head. The nose ..... is an amalgamation of aromas. There’s stone fruit and chocolate notes, but the nutmeg and clove shift this in a direction most porters don’t go.

The taste is really elevated by the nutmeg and clove, but I’m not sure this is anywhere near carrot cake. All I know is I like it - just a really nice, easy drinking porter.

Excellent brut IPA. Fantastic lasting head retention/thick soapy lacing. Crystal clarity. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, white grape/wine, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, onion, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bready malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, light-medium body, and moderately crisp/clean finishing. Balance bready/grainy malts, sticky hops, and light resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very drinkable, not aggressive, minimal warming 6.7%. Huell Melon, Nelson Sauvin, Azzaca, Citra, & Amarillo. Great mix if vibrant, dank, and earthy hop complexity; nice solid pale malt backbone, with no residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. Very well made, spot on for the style. 4.03

After being sidetracked for many hours in Brooklyn and 2016 a quick Anchor Our Special Ale, I am here as promised. I am very happy to join you all for 2018's last NBS. Here's to hoping you all have a wonderful New Year!
    Budweiser Copper Lager.
Brilliant copper body. Perfect clarity. One finger white soapy head that dies down to a wispy cap and a faint ring. Some wet lace on the glass makes it's way down.
The aroma is faint toasted malts, honey and medicinal hops. The honey is quite pronounced and mingled nicely with the hops. Fairly one dimensional and not hint of bourbon or barrel.
The taste follows the nose. Faint toasted malts. Nice honey flavor but a little heavy handed. The medicinal hops are more pronounced but dull with no pop. I guess I am getting a hint of barrel if that's what the musty flavor is. There is a lingering aftertaste of weak bourbon.
Light in body and carbonation. Light mouth feel, a little slick, a little watery.

The best part of this beer was the package, the bottle, the color and my picture. I didn't expect the world for this but I had hoped for more than complete disappointment. I blame Craig.

Cheers, all. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hey so this is all new to me! Today I am drinking Lord Hobo Boom Sauce IPA New England style IPA.

This ipa has a fruity smell with the expected tart smell for a modern ipa.

The taste does not have a fruit added flavor but more so a citric like taste from the hops used. Nice taste with a bitter finish.

My 2018 is ending on a high note. There have been a lot of changes this year mainly for the good. New experiences and new things to look forward to in 2019. I think I'm ending my year on a high note by checking out this website and trying something new! :-) Hopefully making some new friends and learning sone new things!

Greetings All from the Great Northwest, where this is essentially my 13th anniversary of membership at BeerAdvocate.com. I remember it well, I had a Sam Adams Winter Sampler and I was trying to figure out what the hell a Cranberry Lambic was. I googled 'lambic' found BA in the search results, and the rest is a 13 year journey. Here is a link to that first review:

Show of hands, how many of you were too young to legally drink beer when I found this site? I was in my mid 40's, just wondering about the millennial count.

Today it's Wonderland Winter Lager. A nice malt forward dark lager from Silver City Brewing.

A very nice brew, and of course poured into the '12' glass as the Seahawks wrap the regular season and head to Dallas to eliminate the Cowboys next weekend.

    Until then,

    Happy Trails!

Been off since just before Christmas and this last week has seemed like constant eating and drinking. I’m ready for a break but I have so many new beers from trades!
This new beer was part of a trade from Atlanta area that my friend brought up when he visited.
Aw Juice from Gate City Brewing Co.

16 ounce sticker can, no date seen. The label states “Awe Juice!!!”, Awe with an E. I poured mine in a tulip although can instructions say to drink from a can. Besides Heady, only other beer Ive seen say that.
Pours crystal clear, (you can see my chair slats through the beer) amber orange. Begs the question, do juicy beers have to be hazy? Finger of bone white head. Sticky lacing as I drink.
Aromas of tangerine, mandarin orange, overall citrus.
Similar taste as nose. Grapefruit, lemon pith, papaya. Pine and resin on the nose. Much more bitter than should be for a self labeled “juicy IPA”.
The carbonation is just a bit much for me. Crisp and clean finish.
Good beer, but better options out there.

Hi everybody, and Happy last NBS of 2018! And what a year in beer it's been for me- I'd say that at least half of my Top 10 most memorable, super-fantastic brews this year came to me by way of this crew, such as-
@WesMantooth for introducing me to the Wooly Pigs and their brewery; the Rustic Helles and Festbier could easily stand up with the best of them.

@Vidblain for sharing the Hammerheart love, and especially Mani, big powerful flavors assembled with deftness and finesse.

@Harrison8 for the Crane beers, but especially the Beet Weiss, a seemingly whackadoodle idea that works surprisingly well, with the earthiness playing to the essence of the style.

And @Premo88 , for the Altstadt beers, but especially the Kolsch which was particularly impressive and memorable.

These are just the ones that clicked with me the most, but overall I received so many others that I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks again to everybody, and to @beertunes for his continued leadership of this BIF!

Speaking of which, tonight's beer is from a ninja box sent by @Victory_Sabre1973 , and it's a Secret Santa Mystery Beer:

Since I don't know what's in the can (other than the 9% abv) I just poured the whole thing in the glass, but it was a pretty clear beer until that last bit of sediment.

As I sit here typing and sipping, that nice tight head has settled down to maybe a 1/4" but hasn't disappeared completely. The initial whiffs had the feel of continental malts, bready and biscuity, while a bit of swirling brought out touches of spices and fruits. The first sip was still pleasantly malty, but what I am more clearly picking up as a yeast signature has come on stronger: peppercorn, vanilla, pear, baked apple and even banana bread (am I getting walnuts, too?) all come out in a pleasing yet restrained blend. There's a touch of alcohol warmth, as well as a gentle sweetness tamed by a slight but noticeable bitterness (hardly cloying, iow).

It's an enjoyable brew, and at the moment I'm pegging it as a Belgian Strong Pale Ale. Going with that theory, it could probably be a bit more dry and stately to hit the top tier. But- and this is a big plus in my book- it doesn't bash you over the head with flavors either. So far I'm in the B+ range (3.85-ish), but will finish the glass and return for the reveal. See ya soon...

    Good evening NBS
It was as good a 12 hour Sunday shift as it gets today in the steel mill. Enjoying the posts so far. Here's my contribution...
    The review:
12.7 oz bottle (2018 vintage) poured into a becher glass at 55F, 11.8% ABV per label. The beer pours dense very dark brown with mahogany highlights. The head disappears in seconds fizzing like Coca-Cola and similar in appearance. No lacing. The aroma is vanilla and oak followed by sweet malt and bourbon. The taste is dark, but not burnt caramel, raisin, oak, vanilla and mild bourbon. This beer leans only slightly sweet, offset by moderate earthy bitterness and non-offensive alcohol presence. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with less than medium carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, outstanding. This tastes fantastic. All elements interact well for an excellent experience. Definitely worth a try if you enjoy British Barleywine.

Thanks for the opening remarks @cjgiant. It's been a good year here with two teenagers making good choices and keeping up grades. I'm gainfully employed and can occasionally splurge on fantastic beers like the one above. 2018 was my first full year as a contributer to BA and I find it highly enjoyable and entertaining. Today's review makes #355 for the year. I'm sitting at 99 styles and will likely make a push for all by the end of next year. Cheers all and enjoy the new beer in your glass!

Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch tan head over dark brown, very slightly translucent body, and scant lacing. Nose of roasted malt, chocolate (milk, dark), and faint dark fruit. Taste of chocolate (dark, bittersweet, unsweetened), roasted malt, and malted milk. Nice feel and overall, as it warmed, my rating went up! It's kinda like a Russian Imperial Milk Stout!?!
    Delicious!

One more, then I'm out for tonight.

    Carton's DDH Epitome.

Pours black with two fingers of khaki-camel foam. Head retention is good with curtains of lacing left behind. Aroma is pine, dank, resin, and citrus hops with dense roasty, nutty, bready malts behind. Nice blend of sticky hops with dark malts. Flavor profile is better balanced, with a more firm persona - hitting notes of pine, dank, resin and citrus hops with roasty, toasty, nutty and bready malts. Pine and evergreen hops really stick on the back. Mouth feel is smooth, with a light velvety texture. It has a medium-thick consistency. Overall, splendid black IPA, blending sticky, sweet hop notes with dark, earthy malts. Well balanced and extremely drinkable, completely hiding the alcohol, which is north of 10%.

    Score: 4.5 | 4 | 4.5 | 4.25 | 4.5 | BA Score: 4.36 | rDev: +5.6%

If the aroma was a little stickier, this would be the black IPA I'd want in my fridge for every day drinking. Absolutely lovely. Cheers to @TheGent for this one.

Actually - I saw that same package and thought about getting it since I doubted I wanted 6 12oz bottles of them (and the GF definitely didn't want any). Now I am glad I didn't.

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

    And farewell to 2018.

So, how was my year. Interesting. It was better than 2017 for me, but it would have been very hard for 2018 to be as bad as 2017. I have enjoyed the year for the most part. I had a great vacation to North Carolina back in march. I had several fun fishing trips throughout the year on beautiful Lake of the Woods. I did, however, get my car totaled on one of those trips thanks to a giant deer. That stunk, and we had to abort said trip because of that.

So, yeah, I'd say it has generally been good, and I think 2019 will be even better.

Now, on to the beer tonight. All day at work, which was a total waste of time being open today, I had one thought in my mind - Bramble. I was so planning on having BCBS Bramble tonight. I get home, and remembered that it was the one variant that my friend wasn't able to get on Black Friday, and I was going to save it for the next fishing trip in the spring to share with him.

    Oh, well.

So I decided to go with this instead.
Kilt Switch from 903 Brewers. 12.9% ABV.

This beer was sent to me in the NBS BIF #8 in a ninja package from @r0rschach . Don't mess with Texas, because this beer is a big beer in a small can. I am digging this beer. It has a great flavor with the flavors really just being just right for this beer.

    Review

    4.24/5 rDev -0.2%
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Pours a brownish/ color. When I hold it up to light, it looks red, and semi clear. The head is 1 finger, and slightly off white. The head retention is ok, and dissipates to a foamy ring around the glass.
The nose has a boozy aroma to it. It has hints of caramel to it. It also hints of fruit, some raisin. Quite pleasing.
Taste - Mellow for a fraction of a second, then the flavors kick in, and it's a lot. I'll do my best to describe them. I get the fruit/raisin which turns into the caramel. I almost get a smoke flavor, very slight on the backside.
The body is full bodied. There's a slight warming alcohol burn on the way down on the backside. Not harsh feeling at all.
Solid beer that really hits things very well. Damn good.

So, yeah, I thank you so much for sending this beer to me. I am pleased with it. It may be it tonight, but I might be able to pull one more out. I'll just sit back and enjoy this one for a while.
