What are your plans in beer for 2019? Goals? Cutting back? Trying out a dry January (or I guess JanuQuenchy?)? Trying for all styles of beer, all states, or a top list?

I have a feeling this is going to be the year of the dry June for me. The wife is due with our second in the middle of June so I'll be giving up beer after Memorial Day and if patterns like the firstborn follow, I probably won't touch another beer until around Independence Day or later.

Beyond that, it's to remain cognizant of the ABV of the beers I'm drinking and keep higher ABV beers as a treat. Last year doing that helped me to better control my weight so it's a trend I'd like to keep.

Have a happy New Year everyone!

Trying new beers is more and more difficult in my small French town. Mind you and without false modesty I’ve tried already some of the top notch American breweries. The Belgians ones too. The UK and Germany as well...

I met a BA last year for a chat and an IP trade.

So I’m willing to try more whether from IP trade if some of you land in this CDG craphole, or online beer shops.

    Happy new year in advance.

I am hoping to make it to the West Coast (both US and Canada) for a beercation. I would like to hit either San Diego or Portland in the US. The other idea I have is a road trip around the Great Lakes. Stops in NY, PA, OH, IA, MI, IL, WI and MN before heading back into Canada.

The nice aspect of the road trip is that I can load the car up with beer on the trip and between my wife and I we can bring back over 100 liters of beer (about 12 cases) to Canada. Sure, I will have to pay some duty, but it will be worth it with the great beer I can get along the way.

Other than that, I just hope to try more good beer. There is a growing craft culture in Canada and I think there will be better and better beer available to me here.

    Cheers!

After these holidays I'm definitely doing Dry January. Our honeymoon in May is going to be Munich/Lucerne/Salzburg. So that will be my big beer trip for the year, unless I go see my brother in VT. Trying to figure out if I should tour Ayinger and Weihenstephaner, or just visit their biergarten.

I'm also planning to cut back after dry January. I'm thinking Friday/Saturday/Sunday only. I need to get back in the gym, I don't think a beer a night is holding me back from that. But the excess calories are catching up to me. I'm 15lbs heavier than I've ever been and with increased back pain due to that.

Working my way up to 9000 reviews, while subsequently clearing out all of the overstock I have; and not buying as much as I was this year, unless it is new beer.

More days where I don't drink at all. Hard for me to do, frankly...
Oh, and trips to Scotland, Seattle/NW, and Chicago (yes, again). :stuck_out_tongue:

For 2019 its about the experiences as much as the beer. Planning a couple bottle shares with good friends. I'll be spending a week in San Diego which will have some fun stops. And my buddies do an annual baseball trip which always includes a good brewery\bar stop, with SunTrust being the venue this year. Lastly, another homebrew hangout with a good friend in CT.

I've sampled plenty of good beer, and found that I remember the good folks I shared it with as much as the beer itself. I hope to continue that into the next year.

I'm hoping to brew and drink more of my own and other homebrewers' beer, plus worry less about chasing every trend in the commercial beer world. I also want to focus on classic styles in both my own and commercial beer. I increasingly find a well done interpretation of a classic style far more impressive than something with every adjunct imaginable dumped into it.

Several goals, as I'm a pretty goal driven person.

I reviewed over 500 beers this year, and I want to review (i.e. drink) much less than that next year.

I want to visit at least one beer from each state plus Washington DC (sitting at 47). Upon completing, I want to visit two beers from each state.

I want to visit one beer of each style, of which I'm currently just missing German Roggenbier. Upon completing this, I want to visit two beers in each style.

I will cut out beer in training for both the Boston and Chicago marathons, sticking to NA versions.

Finally, I want to review 100 places. I'm currently at 94+1. I have a work trip here soon of which I've spotted two breweries very close to my hotel that I hope to visit, pending how I feel after long days on the job site.

Summed up - drink less, focus on more variety and less hype.

    Cheers.

    Mix in more Bourbon/Rum drinking.

Attend Extreme Beerfest in early Feb.

Buy less local (believe it or not) and more shelf beers that are cheaper and just as good (if not better).

My plan for 2019 is basically the same as my 2018 plan: get out there and try beers from the plethora of new breweries that have opened in the past year (and will open in 2019). I did an OK job in 2018 and I hope to do a better than OK job in 2019 but frankly there is more locally brewed beer available than I have the 'skills' to drink them all.

    Cheers!

Goal for 2019 is to methodically reduce the beer cellar, by hosting
    friends for some vertical tastings.

I am constructing a new cellar in the basement as part of a total reno that I am doing, and then I will need to start stocking it.

Doing at LEAST a 2 week "Dry January" lol. Biggest thing is to not overspend and by too many different beers every time I'm at a beer store or brewery. I plan on traveling a lot in 2019, so I'm going to leave most of the spending to visiting breweries, while keeping the supply in my fridge at a minimum.

Get my ass to more local breweries. They are popping up all over my area. Lots of locally brewed beers, not in my distribution area, just waiting for me.
Plus, try to actually cellar some classics. By cellar, I mean put them in my “ cellar “ and leave them there for than 3/4 months. Ah willpower, should have put that on my Xmas list.
Happy New Year to all fellow members!
