Prop 2019 is going to be Bourbon County BBQ.

Do the fans of peppermint flavor in general like Candy Cane County (or whatever it was called at GI Clybourne)? I had it out of curiosity, knowing full well that I don't like peppermint flavors. And it was confirmed, I don't like it in beer either.

Similar to a Pumpkin Spice Latte, Candy County is a delicious once a year treat.

I'll preface this by saying I've never had Candy Cane County (which I assume is BCBS with Candy Cane), but I have had Candy Cane Cuthulu in past years. I personally LOVE Candy Cane Cuthulu but from what I've heard of the reviews of Candy Cane County, it doesn't sound like the same beer.

There was one year that I didn't love CCC, but I've loved every other iteration, and I really liked Candy County last year (I didn't have it this year because I couldn't get to Clybourn any other time than when they tapped Nutulhu). One particular year it was way too peppermint-forward (in that the pours I had masked a great deal of the stout), but in general I really enjoy the combo of a GI BA stout + peppermint (and I like peppermint in general, for what it's worth).

    [3 weeks pass]

In fairness, flowing beer over [ingredient] sounds pretty close to what randalling actually is, mechanically. Even though I know it’s typically done with a French press. Hell, there’s a bottle shop in KC that used to offer a special randalled beer once a week where it was created by using some crazy doohickey that attached to the tap line where you would load in frankincense and myrrh or whatever other shit you wanted the beer to taste like. Which sounds almost identical to flowing the beer over the ingredient in a tank.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Others have said caramel, but I could also see this making a really tasty Apple Pie/Cobbler BCBS if you added a buttload of cinnamon and vanilla and a touch of nutmeg. Maybe some graham cracker as well.

This is what I was thinking. Apple pie a la Mode. Apple, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

What if it was a caramel apple barleywine?

They already said they were adding caramel and something else and putting it on tap next week. So we'll know soon.

If anyone is looking for MO or Bramble it was on the "special shelf" at Binnys DG

Does GI have a winery permit? Isn't this falling in the realm of cider?

Actually, why doesn't Clybourn get some old barrels from Virtue Cider and try aging some BCBS in those....

    I’m no legal expert, but:

    1) GI has an army of lawyers at their disposal to ensure that whatever they are concocting is above board, and

    2) Wouldn’t they have to be using apple juice as the fermentable for it to be considered cider? I dunno—also not a brewing expert.

Not sure what he fell for. I agree the apple probably needs to be on the fermentable side, but I am curious about the entire process of how the regulators classify the gray areas. What do you classify something if it is half malt and half apple juice prior to fermentation. Etc.

At least as far as grapes are concerned, I understand that the fermentable sugars from the fruit can't exceed 49% in order for beer to not shift into the classification of wine. And you need different licensing to sell different bev.

I'd much rather Goose Island keep it simple (for the most part) with BCBS and just focus on getting BCBCS and BCBBW back to where they were than doing some stupid apple pie variant. Get creative with Prop if they must.

In fairness, this is just a taproom one-off at the moment, right? This is exactly the sort of thing I wish the 2 physical locations did more often (have weird BA one-offs and shit). Otherwise I get what you mean.

New year, still people bitching about BCBS. They actually posted the next ingredients they were adding in. I think it was cinnamon and caramel? I have to assume they try a ton of different stuff out, and this seems worth a try. Definitely no reason to complain about it.

I do wonder if they kinda knew people would have this kind of reaction and posted it to get a rise out of people.
