Best Thread of 2018

2016 — probably the fall, but it could have been earlier

 

I used to be in the can’t be fresh enough group, then I came across a beer that I suppose you might call a bit green, it was far better at 2-3 weeks than it was 2-3 days old. That was a revelation.

 

I followed your postings and @zid postings back to that time and on 11/5/16 you posted on another thread that you were heading over to the "snulip thread". I never saw any posts by you on a likely thread. On 11/6/16 @zid referred to the thread too. I don't see any postings by zid either, so the thread must have been deleted.

 

I think I know another appropriate place you can always stick it

 

Either I'm losing my edge or you guys are. I had the over/under on this reply pegged at fifteen minutes, and it's been a whole day and a half. My bookie just made a down payment on a new Escalade. Well done!

Nope, the snulip thread was Oct/Nov 2016, and from those that recall it there was a lot more discussion about snulips.

 

Dude that guy was triggered the second I came after him, then he started ranting and came across as maybe the biggest tool I've encountered on this site.

 

I just remember someone saying his profile was no longer available (?)

 

Well, I just went to the WaybackMachine internet archive to seek the snulip thread. They have snapshots on 11/1/16 and 11/7/16, but nothing in-between. On those dates I couldn't find it, so either it was started and deleted between those snapshots, or my assumptions are bad. I assumed the thread title had something to do with glassware and the only two I spotted were already dismissed here. I only looked in the beer talk forum. If it was in another forum or had a non-obvious name, that's why I missed it.

It was not listed on the main page either. Search on Wayback won't work because any page that exists on the current day site isn't archived, so the search would be on the current site against the current data.

I didn't try to find the subway posts mentioned yet. If you want to poke around in Wayback, here is the link to beeradvocate on it. You can select snapshots and see threads unless it hasn't kept them because they exist on the current site;

This is why deleting things off the internet doesn't always work. You can bet others have archives too, possibly more complete, but those probably are not publicly accessible if you get my drift.

OK, as @zid says it was called "Tulip vs. Snulip vs. Snifter". It was in the beer talk forum and still existed late on 11/8/16. But - Wayback does not have the actual thread. Also noted that Wayback snapshots are incomplete and when you start drilling down on one date, the lower level may be months before. So dead end, unless someone saved a copy.

 

If the Snulip thread was from 2016 then presumably we can finally move on as far as best thread of 2018 goes?

Controversial Opinions thread...ran off the rails a few times but damn it was fun. Being able to post things without getting slammed was a blessing...even though some folks JUST DIDN'T GET IT......

 

I was a big fan of Controversial Opinions. And whether you were a fan or not it served a great purpose of keeping a lot of dross, and/or opinions that would otherwise been articulated in their own threads, in one place.

But I think a true TOTY needs to have a beginning, a middle and an end. And so although I mentioned HF Bait and Switch further up, while it had an awesome beginning it didn’t really close out. So I’d agree with others that the Trillium one should be the overall winner.

 

Typical favorite thread of BA users:

Beginning: OP posts a question / opinion / rant / grand idea

Middle: Other people pile on to relentlessly mock pretension or entitlement of OP and complain about the death of their ideal craft beer scene

End: OP stops defending himself/herself and the thread peters out (or occasionally gets locked/deleted)

 

And the favorite of the higher brow, atypical, above it all BA user is....?
