For the second day out of three, I couldn't sleep thanks to this stupid head cold. I feel miserably tired and sore. I need a beer.

A 5 year old Half Acre Big Hugs on the floor with a sick doggo. While the bloodwork came back acceptable for a dog her age, the ear infection has wrecked her equilibrium and appetite. Nothing the vets have prescribed has had any positive effect thus far. Heading to a dermatologist next week in the quest for a solution.

As for the beer, I was never a big fan. I found it way too sweet and that's probably the reason this one collected dust for so long. The sweetness is gone and it tastes like bitter dark chocolate with some roasted malt. No coffee is present, but I never tasted much if any when it was fresh. Drinkable enough and other dusty bottle is heading for recycling.

@Prager62 - too bad your 2013 HA BH didn't hold up, it's a good beer within a year's window but I was always more partial to Benthic and its variants...never quite understood why they try so hard to make Big Hugs their "bigger stout release" event. Benthic is at least 30% better.

Hugs is a good beer at best, but it was never worth the wait in line back in the day. Had Benthic and variants at FOBAB. Better, but not worth the hassle either. I pretty much feel that way about all 'special' releases now. I guess the Chicago shit shows wore me down and caused me to move?:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: There's plenty of quality product sitting on shelves and good beer readily available at local breweries. Good times for beer drinkers! Cheers.....

Certainly not my last beer of the day, but equally certainly my last beer this am. :stuck_out_tongue:

Going with pour two of KBS. This doesn't quite kill off the bomber, but I promise you: I soon will.

I'm having a New Belgium Brut IPA. I had my 1st of the style (which was also New Belgium's) a few weeks ago and liked it and said I would like to try more. Well, this was at my shop again, so I picked up another. It has a beautiful appearance. Flavors are lemon, grapefruit & pineapple with a bit of sour/funk going on as well. This is a damn solid beer. Cheers!

Hazy yellow gold color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma like the herb section of a home garden after a light rain with a bit of citrus blossoms and pine trees just over the fence.

Taste is a complex melange of hops that closely match the scent with herbal aspects dominating. Still comes across as a pleasant mixture though. Malt is there in the body but I don't notice it very much in the taste. Hops are strong in this one but with a light handed touch, no firmness or any real bitterness for that matter which is a bit surprising considering it's 65 IBU. I get some of the usual Belgian yeast touches in the aftertaste but not a clove/banana thingy, rather like a bit of fruit in the background.
