How are they able price their offerings so low? It seems like most of their beers sell for 10%-20% less than similar options. What gives?

That’s a great question, if they’re fresh their beers are outstanding, and they are price friendly.

I’d love to see where this goes, I was browsing yesterday and IMO 6 packs of local crap was $12.99 plus tax.

Is this situation that Lagunitas is "so cheap" or this other craft breweries are too expensive!?!

    Cheers!

Here, they're actually sightly pricier than other big craft brands - typically $1-2 per six pack. Sumpin' Sumpin' is really pricey, for what it is, at $12.99. That's nowhere near the $17.99 for a 16x4 for the more limited hazy IPAs in stores around here, but it's still pricey when you can get Union Jack or Modus Hoperandi (both which I think are far superior to any Lagunitas stuff) for $9.99. I don't have any particular problem with Lagunitas, but I do kind of laugh to myself at the idea of Lagunitas being priced like a luxury brand.

As a counterpoint Lagunitas beers are indeed significantly cheaper than beers like Union Jack here in Pennsylvania. I truly wish I could buy a 6-pack of Union Jack for less than 10 bucks (and find it fresh too).

    Cheers!

Big volume sales, less profit per sale made up for by lots and lots of sales.
Think Lowes compared to your local hardware store.

gee. let's have a convo that sounds like it invites or encourages them to raise their prices.

Probably because they have been brewing beer for a long time. When I first started drinking Lagunitas wasn't cheaper than others it was priced comparatively to other brands.

Only in recent years have newer brewers started raising the prices a lot.

Last beer I bought from Laguniats was a sixer of super cluster for $9.99. I thought it was a good beer and considering it’s a 8% DIPA that’s a really good price.

I don't often buy sixers, but I always snag The Waldos' when it lands. Gotta be one of the best - if not THE best - values in craft beer. Love the beer, love the format, love the price.

Victory is the same. Really good beers for the price. They are more established, better distribution, higher volume so less profit per sale needed I guess. In the meantime, FOMO drives up demand for the (by and large) lower quality offerings from smaller guys. So the smaller guys take advantage (as well they should)--I gladly support local as best I can, but am discerning about it. The beer has to be good

I am not smart enough but there is a lot to unpack and a lot of other issues and considerations here, though. Hopefully some smart journalist is reading this and can write something if it's not already been written

Lagunitas is "cheap" because the owner or who ever is in charge is will to sell it at a lower mark up then other brewers. Sierra Nevada does the same thing as some others do.

"Nobody buys" Lagunitas' beers? They are the only US brewing company of the "craft era" other than Sierra Nevada and New Belgium to come close to reaching the Million Barrel mark* (984k bbl in '17). What do they do with all that beer if it's not being sold?

(* Yeah, BBC did it, but as a contract brewer using multi-million barrel "macro" breweries).
