So, uh, somebody check my math, but 1.5m gallons = approximately 12 million 16 oz cans.

    At $3.75 a pop, that's $45M in 2018. What.

That should also be conservative... really conservative, given the average can price is likely higher than that and a good chunk of those sales are draft and bottles, which sell for double the price. And then there's merch which I'm sure they sell a lot of especially with the glassware hype.

I remember doing napkin math back in the day and being amazed by the $100k per week; now they're doing 10x that, which basically lines up with their original projections way back when they first broke ground at Charlton. It's almost like they know what they're doing.

This is amazing. To say they're killing it is a massive understatement.

This article says Dogfish Head was shooting for 300,000 barrels in 2018.

    https://www.brewbound.com/news/dogfish-head-eyes-300000-barrels-2018

That's a little over 9 million gallons. So DFH is only doing 6x TH's output when they sell beer in 42 states and are known across the world.

This shitty site also estimates a mere $40M revenue:

    This is blowing my mind!

During the summer there was pretty much a continuous line of 100 people (averaged) every hour they were open. With the amount that some people roll away with (literally) it's not that crazy. I remember talking with my friend in line about their revenue and we both agreed that they must be making around $1mm per week during those summer months.

It's not too hard to figure the numbers when they post every day how much beer has sold the previous day and at what price.

They were selling out of the 2,500 case batches within days of canning in the summer. Let's take Haze for instance: $4.30 per can x 24 per case = $103.2 per case x 2,500 = $258,000

Add the figures from the other offerings during the week and they were making some serious cash. They must have considerable operating expenses, though. 50+ employees, constant construction, hops, water, electricity, etc... Still amazing what they're doing based on where they were 5 years ago. Would love to see their revenue graph from Brimfield to now

Don't worry though, no malt was harmed during this production.

I understand that they are bringing in some serious revenue, but you are correct that their operating expenses have got to be up there too. Construction/land loan, tanks, canning line, cans, utilities, ingredients, 50+ employees at minimum $35k/yr. I know they are pumping more money into the town of Charlton for their waste water mitigation plan, I don’t remember the exact numbers but I remember thinking they were high.

Hell, I had a small leak in a never used toilet in my basement and my water bill jumped like 600% for 1 quarter. Water isn’t cheap unless they have their own well onsite.

Believable: I heard they had no investors for the Charlton building.

Less believable: I heard they paid for the entire building/operation up front, no loan.

The best part about that article is that Nate is quoted as saying they still think they can sell 30k barrels in a direct to customer format. I don’t know what they’re at now, but judging from the amount of 240 fermentation tanks I saw added in my last visit, I’d say they have surpassed that number.

Anybody with better barrel/gallon/case count skills want to venture at what they’re yearly production is currently?

According to the quote above stating 1.5 mil gallons of beer this year, that would equate to about 48,000 barrels (31 gallons per barrel?)

I have a feeling they have been consistently surprised by the amount of beer they can sell direct from their facility which has led to these growing pains. Not sure if many people could've predicted their current situation in Charlton

Love the current DS. Had been feeling that DS had been marching closer to TS lately, with the higher alcohol and more, heavier, darker flavors, but this current stuff feels like a move back towards what they brewed in previous years. I'm a huge fan.

When I tell beer geek friends not in New England how much beer TH is selling, and how much revenue that equates to, they rarely believe me. They think it's New England bias, lol.

I told a brewer friend in California, he said: "I know. We keep track. It's astonishing. Absolutely incredible. Almost everyone out here wonders how, but knows it's true."

Super sap is easily one of my favorite tree house beers. Double shot was pretty good but I am finding myself to be less and less of a stout fan over time. Green from last week does seem a touch watery but still tastes good. Enjoyed snow. Still have to try Bbbright with citra. Loving how well they are doing and the beer that is being produced.

The Bbbrighttt variants seem to suffer from the issue where all the good stuff settles to the bottom/second half of the can. I opened the w/citra last weekend (only a day after canning) and it got noticeably hazier and better tasting in the second pour into my glass. This happened to me the last time they released bbbrighttt w/galaxy which is one of my favorite offerings.

I have another citra left so I'll try rolling the can a little before pouring.
