Amazing batch this year. Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roasted coffee, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, cream, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, herbal, grass, and peppercorn. Light herbal, peppery, roast, char bitterness; and cinnamon, bourbon, oak spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body. Very creamy, silky, velvety, rich amazing mouthfeel. Light sticky spice, chalky char/roast, oak tannins, and increasing dryness. No acrid/astringent flavors. Mildly increasing warmth of 10.8% and cinnamon spiciness; no barrel booziness. Dangerously smooth sipping. This is even better than I remember when I first reviewed it. Pretty much perfect balance of rich malts, cocoa, coffee, spices, and barrel presence/integration. A lot silkier/velvety, and not as drying on spices. Would get another.

[IMG] Below zero on the thermometer and starting the day with this roasty and creamy stout. Really tasty with over 6 months on it. Cheers all and let’s get ready for some football!

I am drinking Bottle Logic's Darkstar November a Russian Imperial Stout brewed with molasses and rye and aged in Bourbon Barrels, ABV 14.00%. It is sweet raisin rye bread, molasses, and lots of bourbon. Very nice rye bready, raisin and bourbon aroma. It is delicious. The foam spilled a little.

This beer is one of my favorites. This year's batch is tremendous as usual. I hope to make it to Darkness Day someday.

Incredible as usual this year. Aromas and flavors of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate honey, white bread, light caramel malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation, medium-full bodied, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter resin/rind dryness, no hop astringency. Amazing classic Columbus, Chinook, Centennial, Amarillo, Simcoe profile. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hop complexity; with a great balanced malt backbone. Not overly sweet or bitter, extremely well balanced. Lightly boozy alcohol, but dangerously easy drinking. Never disappoints. Feels less sweet than last year. Will get another pack soon.

Fantastic as always. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, fudge, and herbal/pine hops; with lighter notes of raisin, licorice, smoke, charcoal, and coconut. Some increasing booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop, roast/char bitterness; and light bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied. Very creamy, silky, velvety mouthfeel; lightly slick, sticky hops, chalky char/roast, and oak tannins. Lightly increasing lingering hop/char bitter, oak tannic dryness. No acrid/astringency. Dangerously smooth sipping; mildly warming 14.8%, minimal barrel booze. Spot on rich Russian imperial stout style malt complexity, balancing earthy hops, and amazing barrel integration. More impressed with the Cafe Deth, but glad I bought a lot of both.

Amazing NEIPA as always. Flavors of huge grapefruit, tangerine, orange juice, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, lemon zest, orange peel, and light pepper/pine hops; with wheat, biscuit dough, light honeyed malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Very mild pine, grassy, zesty, citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; very creamy, bready, grainy wheat/oats, and light hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very dank and juicy hops, with perfect wheat, oat, malt malt balance. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness, amazing soft feel. Super easy drinking. Glad to have this as a year round available beer. This is one of my top most purchased beers ever at the moment. It just doesn't get any better for the style vs availability. Every Old Nation NEIPA is better than most anything else I've had in the state. DDH is just as impressive; but a bit more bitter, resinous, dank, and earthy.

Happy Saturday, BAs! Starting with something I brought back from SF. On draft this was a 5. Cans are 4.5 or so, but still incredible, and reaffirming my love for the Galaxy hop.

Last night I watched the movie Heavy Trip, which is Finnish movie about the misadventures of a Finnish heavy metal band. Since I am obessed with all things Nordic, and heavy metal, and having experienced a heavy metal-themed trip to Finland myself, it was the perfect movie for me. That movie has me really amped up for the fact that my two favorite books, which are biographies of crazy heavy metal/rock bands, have movie versions coming out soon. Those two books are Lords of Chaos, and The Dirt. I pulled those books out to read once again. I am starting with Lords of Chaos, a biography of Norwegian black metal. I cannot wait for the movie version, which comes out in a few weeks! For something to sip on while reading, this beer is perfect!
