Ommegang Abbey Ale Dubbel - a beer that really opens up as it warms. Don’t recall having this before. Nice beer.

Ate way later than usual tonight. Therefore => after dinner cup of coffee. Pretty customary in most households.

Today and tomorrow off... been working on setting up an electronic music studio in my basement, plus playing multiple video games and drinking copious beer. What a life. This might be my nightcap, but you never know...

22 month old, 2017 rye whiskey barrel Heavy Boots of Lead by Singlecut paired with bacon/smoked salt dark chocolate. Gotta love decadence...

This was incredible. Lasting head retention/thick soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, white grape/wine, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bread dough, light honeyed malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malt and sticky hops; some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Insanely smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 9.4%. Amazing mixed profile of 12 different hops. Extremely juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balance hop complexity; with a nice bready malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. They really nailed this for sure. Will get again.

Figured this was a good place to begin while I seriously start to introduce myself to the style...Bigfoot Barleywine 2018...piney hops and caramel malt are still hugely present after over a year in the bottle. Aggressive, reasonably simple, but incredibly well-balanced. I'm a fan.

    Cheers!

They use brewers licorice, I might just buy a 6. It’s really a great beer.

To be honest, this has been my reaction to most of Bell's dark beer... I'm in New England and we just recently got access to Bell's stuff in the last like 8-10 months... their Best Brown, Kalamazoo Stout and Expedition are just absolutely fantastic. The first two are basically fridge mainstays, which is unusual as I don't usually keep dark beer around to drink all the time (been into IPAs and hoppy pales like most people these days)... so good!!

Amazing NEDIPA as usual. Glad we finally got more in distro. Aromas and flavors of huge passion fruit, papaya, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, mango, melon, guava, berry, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate wheat, white bread dough malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body. Very creamy/bready/grainy wheat/oats, and some sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Dangerously drinkable for the ABV. Minimal warmth of 9%. Very soft feel. Super juicy hops with some dankness; balanced malts, not overly sweet/heavy feeling for the ABV. Love all Ellison IPAs, but this is my favorite. Glad they are making it more often now. Still have a couple more left from the September batch. Holding up amazingly.
