Can't be sure yet, obviously, but I would bank on one of the Irregulars being the Coffee and Pavlova that they are bringing to EBF. Counting the days before my trip to Boston

That's awesome, thanks for the heads up.

It's so pathetic that I'm MA born & raised and still havne't gone to EBF, NERAX, etc..."Someday" I say every passing year.

How are those things really? I’ve been to smaller beer fests and they’re packed and you can usually only get small samples of things.

Yeah, I've heard mixed things about the bigger events like EBF. As I said, I haven't been so I can't comment from experience.

NERAX (new england real ale expo) is a whole other animal though (or so I'm told). You can buy full pints straight from the casks (last I checked) or you can go the taster route. It's a little easier to move around and socialize. I'm hoping to go this year (April 3-6)

EDIT: but uhhhhh.....errrrr.....judging by the below instagram pic, NERAX has gotten a little bit bigger the past few years. Ugh

I think I've been to two beer fests in my life. The first was early in the craft beer boom, like 2011 or 2012. It was good-- got to try a bunch of different beers from different breweries I've never heard of, and learn about the local scene. By the second year, it was an overcrowded disaster. Huge lines, beers running out, people getting smashed. I do not plan to go to another. What's even the point, unless you are some kind of insider.

Dear lord is that a beautiful concept and combination of words. I just hope it drops at the brewery on a day when I can make the last-minute visit to the brewery when the email goes out.

Hopefully I don't get in trouble with Augie for posting this:grimacing:....it's really not my fault, I swear! I was just doing an innocent Google Image search for "carton brewing irregular coffee 2019". Only good intentions here :innocent:

While Carton has already developed a rep for its Jersey-style coffee cream ale called Regular Coffee (“regular coffee” in the Garden State implies milk and two sugars so the beer is heavy on the lactose), this is one irregular doppelbock. Of course coffee goes with toast but how about in a toasty beer? In lieu of ever adding hops, Carton adds Fair Mountain Coffee’s Bali Blue Moon beans that impart vanilla and chocolate notes, partially to replace and partially to replicate those Hallertau flowers. When early-boil hops would’ve been called for, Carton used green beans. When aroma hops would’ve entered the whirlpool, they added ground dark roast coffee. And instead of dry hopping with fruity varietals, the doppelbock is dry-beaned with medium-roast beans.

This sounds pretty cool. My first reaction was “I’d just like a doppelbock without the coffee,” then I read how the coffee is actually being used.

Any news on the DDB version?

Just subscribing to the Carton thread after a while now that those nonsensical monthly threads are gone.

Haven't had a ton of Carton lately. Picked up the 99 Additions and was kind of underwhelmed. Love that they are hitting regular distribution though and you can pick up more and more of there stuff. Picked up EGOIPA for that which is a great triple.

I really hope Balinator hits distribution, I don't see being able to get down to the brewery in the near future.

Heads up, everyone. Two irregular coffees out today. My fave, Cafe y Churro and a new one that does not sound like something I would enjoy but others might. Coffee and Pavlova, which has strawberries and kiwi - don’t want that in my “coffee.”

I wish I wasn’t working today. I can’t get there until Saturday and it’ll be sold out by then. Churro is one of my favorite beers. Bummed!

Sorry if this was asked previously. Regular coffee nitro didn't hit distro this year, right? Beermenus suggests this is the case, but I'm not sure if it did and I just missed it.

I believe regular did not hit distro.

Smooth pick up today and from talking to the staff they made a good amount.
