I don't know exactly when it started, but at the Mornin Delight release some guys who frequent the Answer brought a couple small format bottles that really impressed me. According to those guys, the beers had been fully brewed by The Answer. The larger format stuff (crowlers) might still be the Founders base, not sure about that.

I’ve seen multiple photos of exploded Strawbanana Marbles cans that were set on counters. So it sounds like you should open the can right when you take it out of the fridge. Careful out there guys

Shoot, I still have some of those cans to drink. I better get on that.

I came home from a share the other night and pulled a Strawberry Banana Marbles out of the fridge as a nightcap, but passed out before opening it. I woke up about seven hours later and luckily it was still good.

We sure these aren't stupid people putting them in a garage fridge or something, where they end up freezing, and then when they bring them in and don't open right away... this is what happens as the cans warm?

No idea. Could be back of the kitchen fridge? I recently had a different can go a little slushie on me (no major issue though the can had a little more give to it)

Yeah, but if it freezes solid/almost solid, this is what will end up happening. I had a few cans of Coors Light in the fridge in my garage leftover from a party last winter, and I forgot about them way in the back behind some other beers. When it got really cold in the garage, they essentially did this exact same thing. The tops expanded until some exploded, and the others had the expanded top just like these pics, but didn't quite explode. It happens with cans of pop as well. How many instances of this have we seen? Just a couple out of all those beers? If that's the case, I'd almost be willing to bet that is what is happening.

Interesting on the garage fridge aspect. Do you notice this happening when it gets to a certain outside temperature? I’ve been storing beers in my garage fridge almost a year and a half, and haven’t encountered this yet (fingers crossed). When I first started using the garage fridge, I did wonder about stuff freezing, though.

It had to be really, really cold. Like... single digits, and below zero at night. It will only happen if your garage isn't heated. Mine isn't, so essentially the garage fridge is always going to be around the same temperature as it is in the garage during the winter. It also won't happen with high ABV beers. Your BA stuff should never freeze. Your higher ABV IPAs shouldn't unless we have an extended cold spell. When we had that really cold weather last year(single digit highs and below zero at night for a week+), I did have Pseudo Sue freeze on me, and that's a 6.2%. It was about 95% frozen when I went to pour one. Moved it into the house, but it was basically ruined even once thawed. Now when it gets really cold, the IPAs come in. Only thing that stays out there is the BA. Too much alcohol in the BA beers for them to freeze.

My “fingers crossed” comment outweighs that. I made sure to check the manual of “Superstitions & Other Silly Things We Believe” before posting.

Makes sense. I pretty much keep all IPAs in my house fridge, although once in awhile stuff has to go out there due to space constraints. That is typically very short term, though.

No way man. This must be something else that we can use to complain about new styles of beer. You can probably trace the whole thing back to Mikerphone.

Unless I missed the correction, the first post was about Strawberrymarbles cans, which is an older release. Then the one photo link above was about strawberry banana.

I have no doubt this happened with the older release, but I would be surprised if this happened with strawberry banana, given how recent.

It is actually a lot more simple than that. Each person's situation will be different based on attached/detached; Living space above?; How many insulated walls? etc... My garage is attached, three insulated walls and living space above so drywalled ceiling. At the end of the day, the temperature has never gotten below 39 degrees despite being below zero outside. Thus, I will never have an issue.

Best practice is to have a thermostat in your garage and if the temp dips below 30 degrees; it is time to move the beer inside.
