I read a news story that some idiot vegetarian couldn't bear to feed meat to his dog, and killed the dog feeding it veggies. People eat meat naturally, it just is, and we may be the only animal on planet that rebels against the natural diet, or even considers whether it is moral to eat what hunger, nature, and the universe demand we do so we stay alive. The idea that plants are any more or less deserving of being enslaved in farms and killed is a laughable thing now with our new understandings. A favorite comical moment is to listen to vegetarians discuss the ways they try to make a diet of plants provide the protein our animal bodies require.

My favorites was some vegetarian friends that I had in college that refused to eat vegetables...

They basically ate nothing but pasta and cereals.

Which are made from murdered/enslaved plants. How did they react when you broke that heart-rending news to them? :grimacing::joy:

Aggravating as that might be, that pack has a better chance of making it to your house than all those you didn't touch.

A distraught Chuck Heston in Soylent Green comes to mind:
It’s barley.........you gotta TELL ‘em! BEER IS BARLEY ! ! We gotta stop ‘em...somehow.

We're also the only animal that makes beer. You think makes beer-making a bad idea as well?

For the record, I do eat meat. But I also think that all the arguments against plant-based diets are absurd.

Oh, I want to try this. Problem is getting that shot of espresso fresh and hot for the addition.

I guess I have one more reason to buy an espresso machine.

One of the best arrangements of words ever to grace the BA forums. I want a T-shirt that says this. That would be a tremendous name for a new evil twin beer.

Ya I was blessed to be introduced to this by a coffee shop that had a few beers and ciders on tap too. They called it a Russian Speedball. barring an establishment of that caliber it requires subterfuge and the awkward request for my double shot in a 20 oz cup please. (though most hip young barista types respect you if the answer to why is because you're going to add beer to it)

I don't know if this is controversial or not but I'm sort evangelical about this wonderful beverage combination, I have tried it with all sorts of beers including bigger IPAs. As you would expect, bigger flavored, darker beers work better but it can be nice with the right dipa and now that I think about it the right neipa might make a disgusting looking but delicious mix as well.

I am reminded of a passage or so in Loren Eiseley''s Immense Journey that cited early humanoid consumption of meat protein as a major reason for the rapid noted cranial growth that lead to civilization as we know it. I have always believed this perspective, given the great and gradual crush of time.

The major quality bar/coffeeshop closed in my area, but they are looking for a new location. I'm eager to see their return, and eager to visit this drink!

No one is against eating plants that I know, least of all me. Seems like the only ones against anything are the veggie heads against eating meat. And what the heck does that thing about hating beer because we make it even mean?

I personally enjoy listening to the death throes of coffee beans as you heathens pour your boiling water on them. Keep the damned coffee away from my precious beer.

And, coffee in anything other than a Stout or Porter is ridiculous. And gross. even grosser than coffee in Stouts and Porters.

Some contend (tongue-in-cheek?) that yeast are also responsible for "civilization as we know it". From the book "Yeast”, co-authored by Chris White and Jamil Zainasheff:
“Some historians believe that civilization developed from a desire to drink beer. They speculate that the transition from hunter-gatherer to farmer, and the beginning of civilization, was to grow crops to make beer. Of course, those early brewers could not have made beer without yeast. No yeast, no beer. No beer, no civilization. Therefore, we really have yeast to thank for all of our modern-day conveniences and tasty beer.”

We can't wait. Put that poo-beer pic up pronto.

I read many year ago that fermented beverages helped some groups thrive because of poor general water quality.

A variation on that is, people thought beer was safer to drink because of the alcohol, but really they had figured out to boil the grain, which sterilized the water. Shrug. YMMV.

What about brown ales like Founders Sumatra Brown?

I did enjoy Stone Mocha IPA. And Cold Brew Pumking almost restored my faith in Pumking... they should stop selling normal Pumking and just sell Cold Brew Pumking.

I was about to say agree with @beertunes on the no coffee in anything not a porter or stout, but you bring up good points. I did enjoy Founder's Sumatra Brown and Southern Tier's Cold Brew Pumking (also the last time I made sure to buy a full pack of a pumpkin beer).

Although I have not enjoyed a coffee IPA to date.

I believe wine was considered to be the main safe fermented beverage.
