Yep, but the yeast will stay dormant and the cans should last indefinitely inside a fridge. If people have cans bulging/popping inside the fridge, then parts of their fridge are getting too warm and they have a much more urgent food safety issue on their hands.

We all buy meats and other perishable foods and take responsibility not to let them spoil, I don't think breweries should have any more responsibility than a butcher.

Then they should stop putting beer in cans...the only meat you see in cans is treated to prevent spoilage organisms.

I personally think it is irresponsible to package beer that could cause the can to rupture. It is not a case of freezing but rather a case of fermentation. The easiest way to prevent this is simply pasteurization. Sure beer is a product generally meant to be consumed fresh, but if it can't last a few weeks, then they are doing something wrong. It is on the brewery to prevent this situation, not on the customer. This is just sloppy on More's part.

I think people might be even more upset if More started selling their beer on a styrofoam tray wrapped in plastic.

If it's irresponsible to package beers that could re-ferment or otherwise have bad things happen to them and cause an "explosion" (which, sorry, is much less dangerous with cans than bottles) then new homebrewers should only keg (who hasn't had homebrew bottles pop?) and apparently even Goses shouldn't be packaged, as I had a three-year-old Westbook Peach Gose can explode atop my basement beer fridge recently.

All told I've had at least a dozen different beers blow up over the years, including a TwoBros HopJuice Black (left it in my garage during the 2012 heat wave), NG Berlinners, all manners of friend's home brews, etc. But I generally keep around 1,000 beers on my property.

As I understand it, Marbles contains around 12.5 percent fruit by volume in the can while Frooted is more around 40 percent. The best workarounds to avoid refermentation would involve pasteurizing, adding sulfites and/or using flavoring in lieu of real fruit/juice/puree. The one that would likely harm the beer the least flavorwise would be pasteurization, but it would also require a significant capital investment in a time when More is planning to open two new facilities in the next several years.

TL;DR. Fridge 'em and drink 'em, like it says three times on each can. The real surprise is I have yet to hear a story about any Frooted or Marbles arriving all explodeey at a trade partner's place. We've shipped half a dozen of these cans (typically one from each release) to our Tampa guy without incident without using cold packs.

If they have the money for two expansions, they have the money for pasteurization equipment to ensure the quality of their product.

I mean, they have to prioritize but you obviously have a clear understanding of how much this would cost and have run the ROI numbers for the paltry number of Frooted and Marbles cans they have and will release with their current brewery. Right?

I don't really get why you're being snarky. I didn't attack you personally or anything.

To me, the quality of my product would be a higher priority than expansion, let alone two expansions. I understand that the installation of pasteurization equipment wouldn't directly result in income, but if beer with lots of residual sugar and a high potential for refermentation to a level that can lead to loss is going to be a big part of your business model, ensuring stability and quality of those beers should be paramount, else those who lose cans to rupture will be less likely to be repeat customers, and enough issues will cause PR problems.

I question their business acumen anyway because in the current overcrowded scene, two expansions doesn't seem all that wise, so I guess I'm not surprised that they aren't too worried about these can bombs.

    So...snarking on a brewery = acceptable?

Snarking on a low-information post = penalty flag?

FWIW, what I know of their expansion plans makes pretty good sense. Add a production facility with a tap room to service external accounts and add another brewpub-type facility with a decidedly different menu than Villa Park's to appeal to a wider/different audience.

I wasn't even snarking on More. I like More. I don't get why me criticizing something you have no personal stake in made you get so defensive. It is possible to have a different opinion and be civil, you know.

I just think it's bad business to package beers that have a chance of exploding (I think that term is a little hyperbolic, but I don't really know what else to call it), and I think remedying the situation should be a priority for them, moreso than expanding.

Look, it's pretty basic: when you act like you know best what a business should do but don't know anything about the economics involved it annoys me and I may crack on your ignorance.

Get some ass salve for your butt hurt and move on. Over and out.

At no point did I say what was definitively best for them. Like taking things overly personally, another thing people always do on the Internet is have little to no awareness of when someone is expressing an opinion. I even said it was my opinion multiple times, but I shouldn't need to because it is almost always obvious what is an opinion.

You are free to disagree with my personal thoughts, but you could do it in a more discussion-friendly way.

And please don't presume to know what I do or don't know about economics.

I mean, it's obviously true that they do (a single expansion will likely cost far more than pasteurizing equipment), but whether they should allocate that money for an expansion or pasteurization is an opinion.

Considering how much money they're constantly raking in, they could probably afford all three, but that's not something I can know since I'm not privy to the specifics of their finances.

It's not a point of pride or humblebrag. Just points to the fact that I'm statistically more likely than some to experience a beersplosion or two.

i'm more curious if you have them organized in some kind of way??? like by style, by brewery, or something else? or by brewery and then style or ? how do you navigate what you want to drink ?
