Incredible as usual. Aromas and flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, fudge, vanilla, coconut, cream, toasted oak, brown sugar, and dark bread; with lighter notes of molasses, rum raisin, fig, date, cherries, licorice, smoke, and charcoal. Increasing booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Light roast/char bitterness and rum/oak spice on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied. Very creamy/silky mouthfeel; with light slickness, chalky roast, and oak tannins. Slightly increasing bitter roast and tannic oak dryness. Never acrid/astringent. Incredible balance of the rum barrel and base stout. Pleasantly warming, but not boozy finish. Dangerously smooth sipper. Amazing all around. Glad I was able to score another one recently. Prairie imperial stouts rarely disappoint, very top tier stuff. Vanilla Noir is my top rated beer, which is tied with BA Bomb.

This was incredible. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, white grape/wine, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bread dough, light honeyed malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malt and sticky hops; some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Insanely smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 9.4%. Amazing mixed profile of 12 different hops. Extremely juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balance hop complexity; with a nice bready malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. They really nailed this for sure. Will get again, hope they make another batch.

Amazing as usual. Flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roast coffee, molasses, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of dark fruit, smoke, and charcoal. Balanced roast/char bittersweet and bourbon/oak spicy finish. Medium carbonation and full bodied; awesome creamy, silky, velvety, and lightly slick mouthfeel; with some lightly drying chalky roast and bourbon/oak tannins after the finish. Mildly increasing warming finish, minimal boozy barrel notes. Very smooth sipper. Fantastic barrel integration/balance with the fruity/nutty coffee and rich malts; without being overly boozy on the barrels. More recent batches did not seem to need as much added age to mellow from the barrel booze aspect when fresher, vs previous years. Plus, the last 2 years higher ABV made them even richer.

Brewer calls this a Belgian Style Dubbel . . .

Dark deep ruby color when held to the light but appears almost black in the hand. Very consistent color from edge to edge with large lasting tan cap and lacing.

A rich yet slightly subdued aroma of dark caramel, roasted malt, lightly spicy as if it were just touched with allspice and dark ripe figs.

Taste is surprising for such a big aroma and appearance. Oh there's plenty of it, make no mistake, yet the restraint with which the different flavors come forth is rather like chamber music from the larger stringed instruments. Resounding but not aggressive. I was pleased to find on entry the flavor of well roasted malt without the bitter edge that such malt often carries. Right behind that followed deep but bright flavors of spiced dark fruit. I don't get clove in the spices, something milder like allspice. Nor banana though there is something that offsets the dark fruits. Hops are in there for all I know but keep a low profile. There is, from beginning to end, a sort of sweetness that doesn't intrude but contributes to the overall complexity.

Amazing NEDIPA as usual. Glad we finally got more in distro. Aromas and flavors of huge passion fruit, papaya, peach, pear, apricot, pineapple, mango, melon, guava, berry, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate wheat, white bread dough malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body. Very creamy/bready/grainy wheat/oats, and some sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Dangerously drinkable for the ABV. Minimal warmth of 9%. Very soft feel. Super juicy hops with some dankness; balanced malts, not overly sweet/heavy feeling for the ABV. Love all Ellison IPAs, but this is my favorite. Glad they are making it more often now. Last one from the September batch. Holding up amazingly. Already got a fresher pack.
