Saw this below on Beer Street Journal. Looks like summer 2019 when bottles are going to roll out, so a little wait time.

"Expect 12-ounce bottles and draft of Double Two Hearted Ale to arrive in July 2019".

I like regular Two Hearted but I generally try to avoid these high ABV beers. I see where Dogfish Head is going to produce a new IPA called Slightly Mighty (https://www.dogfish.com/brewery/beer/slightly-mighty) with an ABV of 4%. It sounds interesting and I'll give it a try even though don't like most "session" IPAs. DFH seems to be promising a beer with full flavor. I hope they deliver.

I concur. While I would love to try this, 11% is pretty LARRRGE. Would have loved to see this one at 8.5%

I wouldn’t want a Two Hearted reduction to go that small, but it’s always puzzled me why bells didn’t counter Founders All Day IPA. A baby Two Hearted would gave easily done that I think

That’s a big trend this spring. Lagunitas reformulated DayTime. Firestone Walker reformulated Easy Jack. Seems they want to advertise a low calorie count. Both beers will be 4.0%

Marketing is really starting to come into play now as the market gets more and more saturated

Glad to see that this won't be released until mid-Summer. It will give me some time to deplete my stash of recently acquired big stouts.

Almost three years ago I drove to Bell's on a day that Black Note was released. I got there about 15 minutes after it sold out. So I went into the taproom to have a beer with my brother-in-law. As I was finishing up my first draft, they pulled off one beer sign off the board and replaced it with Double Two Hearted. I remember it being pretty good. It helped ease some of the disappointment of missing out on Black Note.

I am looking forward to this release.

Can’t remember ever having a double ipa using all Centennial hops. THA is about as clean and consistent as it can possibly be done, curious to where this one goes.

I agree with everything you said, but I don't think regular 2hearted is sweet at all. Hopefully they can get the abv high without getting too sweet.

I do think if this is in "The Oracle" / "Mars" territory... the ship has sailed on that type of (I)IPA. I am not getting excited about IPAs over 9% (a statement I would have scoffed at 5yrs ago) typically.

For the amount of 2hearted I have drank over the last ~8yrs, I will certainly be finding at least a single of this brew.

No, no, no. If it's hopped at 2.5 times the rate of Two Hearted Ale, it should be called Quintuple Hearted Ale.

Just to put it out there, this beer is named after the two hearted river in the upper peninsula of michigan. It's a pretty cool river and the super high tannin content it has from running through alder marshes gives it a color like an old school IPA. Not sure if that's why they named it that way or if it's just that Larry likes fishing it but it's a cool tidbit to me

Read some Hemingway, the Nick Adams stories.Larry Bell grew up in a Chicago suburb not far from where Hemingway did. He also loves the UP.

I heard a story about this beer a while ago can't remember the exact details but it was something about a soldier returning home from fighting a war mentally scarred from battle. He found peace in fishing the "Two Hearted" river and it was a good spot but when asked where he fished he would always tell people it was another river to keep his spot secret.

Bell’s apparently named the beer after the river in the Hemingway story and a mention of trout fishing on the river.

(For some folks, trout fishing is associated with also having a cooler of beer waiting....)
