I'm having a Deschutes Red Chair NWPA. It's only out there for a few months with a January release, so I got it fresh. Really well balanced between hops (pine/grapefruit/orange peel) and malts (bread/biscuit). I wish I picked up more than just the one.

    Cheers!

Taking a "snow day" even though it's just really fucking cold. Seems appropiate. Apparently 30 years olds and 10 year olds spend their snow days pretty much the same. Needed some liquid courage to call off despite not giving any fucks.

Surly's 'Coffee Bender' to start the morning off right...

Deep, dark brown body with a thick, frothy head. Balanced aroma of roasted grain and coffee; mocha. Excellent flavor with elements of sweet cocoa, coffee bitterness, baker's chocolate; vanilla bean. Medium body; underlying moderate sweetness with some fine coffee dryness.

This beer delivers excellently balanced and complex flavors with a nice, moderate body, light sweetness, and all-around coffee presence.

Day off today, so I'm joining all of you at the virtual bar. Looks like you all are starting off strong.

Started with a little bourbon in the coffee while I worked on grad. school work, now I'm rewarding myself with this:

Definite sweetness, thickness, and coconut "floaties," but all in all, another excellent stout from Transient.

Cheers, BAs! I'll definitely be back later on.

When the USAF sent me here in 1995, I had visions of snow up to my dorsal posterior expulsion valve every winter. But even back then, the front range was known for fairly mild winters compared to the high country. Winter in Ohio back when I grew up were snowier and colder.

And as for the legal cannabis, it ain't my thing and I (and many of my neighbors) are very frustrated with the growth of bums, panhandlers and homelessness that seem to have exploded in our area since legalization and for which a good argument can be made that legalized weed is a significant factor in this. I'm not against marijuana per se (hey, I'm a child of the late 60s and 70s!). To each their own, but I do find beer a better alternative in my circumstance.

The aroma indicates sweetness but the flavor proves otherwise. Mildly caramely malt carries all the way through then rebounds in the aftertaste which is actually a bit richer than the initial taste impression. Hops follow along and quietly exit at the finish. If tasting this blind I would've said Belgian before asking who made it. It has those characteristics without actually screaming Belgian because I don't find clove/coriander or banana yet there's something reminiscent of Belgian brewing there.

Hazy, pale yellow body; thick, creamy and sticky white head. Prominent pine and citrus aroma. Excellent light citrus punch to the flavor; lemon; light bread crust; well-rounded hop bitterness. Crisp, dry and prickly on the palate.

A very satisfying session IPA that delivers fairly intense flavors and aroma to the senses.
