Carton Brewing (2019)

Sounds good!

 

Had to buy a four pack of irregular when I saw it in the store. Anyone have the EWR-MIA? Thoughts?

 

I tried the EWR-MIA a few days ago. I’m not a Berliner (or Highlander) expert but I thought it was good but could have used a little more spruce. In my experience Ive found spruce if overdone could be overwhelming (thinking of a certain buffalo plaid laden DFH beer here) so I appreciate it being a little underdone here rather than overpowering but would have liked a touch more. Overall though I enjoyed it. The cranberry came through nicely and I found it nice to have a winter version of a beer that’s often focused more on warmer seasons.

 

Hoping I can get my hands on some Sundae this year. Love Cosmo but have yet to try Sundae.

 

If I could somehow narrow down my favorite Carton beers to top 5, Sundae would easily be on the list. Fortunately, I cannot do that.

Sundae is heavenly. The useage of the cognac barrels is some expert-level shit and the cherries just seal the deal. I still have some left from last year, it stuck around for quite a bit, IIRC. Easily one of my favorites from Carton.

@Davedeath no Boat in the top 5? Heartbreaking.

You can put This Town in there too. Really all of the beers they make are too delicious to rank. It’s like picking your favorite child. Can’t think of any I’d turn down; even the “weird” ones we were discussing earlier.

I like boat but it's probably not even in the top 10 for me. Regular odub is so much better,even egoipa is for me...

 

Surprised to see Epitome not mentioned yet. Red Rye, would also fit somewhere in my top 5......

Comparing 0dub/egoipa to Boat is like comparing apples to oranges, IMO. Totally different styles of beer but that’s cool; we were talking overall favorites regardless of style anyway. To each their own. Cheers!

 

Love this conversation. Amazing how different everyone's tastes are.
1. Boat
2. Regular coffee, pre 2019 (hate nitro); I am of the opinion that this is one of the most amazing beers that has ever happened I do not even understand how it is possible.
3/4. Cosmo/decoy, in some order
5. OG O'dub.

I like the fact that carton does these with some sort of regularity. While they do one-off beers it is not to the exclusion of keeping a regular rotation of seasonal and Flagship style beers.

As far as the variants of 077 XX, I do not find them to be a substantial improvement, and in some cases I actually hate them very much. For example the Nelson one has something going on that just does not work for me.

 

Oh and This Town gets honorable mention / 6th Man Award for me

 

This is really really difficult. It’s almost like asking me what my top 5 favorite songs are. Sometimes that varies based on season or mood. But I’ll play along:

You know what beer that surprisingly almost snuck onto this list? Tip-to-top. Supremely underrated. Loved that one. Just a really fun beer that had so many layers.

I kind of look at Boat like the tasting room does- it’s the implied 6th chip

Cosmonaut is definitely in top 10 but after DNA came out that went straight to being one of my all time favorites.
