Sam Adams has just released a brewery-exclusive IPA called "Too Old, Too Slow, Still Here" in recognition and celebration of Tom Brady.

As a lot of the old-guard craft breweries ramp up their promotions of "Flagship February", does anybody else think that this beer name, an ironic reference to some criticisms leveled at Brady in this stage in his career, might also be a calculated double entendre aimed at those in the craft beer scene who have begun to see Sam Adams as stodgy, boring, and unfashionable?

Describes a lot of beers that outlived their shelf life.

“…who have begun to see Sam Adams as stodgy, boring, and unfashionable?”

I personally do not view Boston Beer Company exactly in those terms but…

Over the years I have found the Jim Koch’s beer business decision making too slow:

    · He resisted putting his beer in cans because he had a non-favorable view of cans

    · He resisted producing IPAs because – I really can’t recall his reasoning here

    · Etc.

It does not serve the business well to resist (be slow in accommodating) customer wants/demands.

It could be argued from an overall business perspective the fact that Boston Beer Company is significantly diversifying their beverage portfolio (e.g., hard cider, hard seltzer) is a ‘good thing’ but since I am a beer drinker I personally am not a big fan of this. It would not surprise me in a few years that Boston Beer Company would have a higher volume of non-beer beverages vs. beer on a per annum basis. Is this the sort of company I want to support?

    Cheers!

    It's a G.O.A.T.
I think Sam Adams makes good value beers, I do not consider them "Craft" but definitely quality beers. Maybe not as exciting as some but not boring.

A ram is a type of goat.

SHEEP and GOATS are two different spieces. Often sheep have wool whereas goats have hair, but there are hair sheep, without wool, as well. In that case you can look at the tail: sheep's tails hang down whereas goats' tails point upwards.

    RAMS are male sheep.

The only way to know if it’s a goat or a ram is to check the style. If it’s a bock, you’re right, it’s clearly a goat. Is it a bock?

Was Alex Guerrero the guest brewer on the beer?

People who have just recently gotten into craft beer don't remember the days when Boston Beer was often the only beer that wasn't macro swill you could find in a lot of stores. They might not be as cutting edge or quite frankly even as tasty as a lot of other breweries, but they still produce solid product and we all should be grateful for their past and continued contributions to the industry.

He was trying to make a joke I think.

In Washington DC there is a restaurant called "Tail Up Goat."

Apparently there is a saying in places that have both: "tail up: goat, tail down: sheep"

Absolutely. And those mixed seasonal packs usually have a couple gems in them, at a great value.

You know what a real gem is? Boston Lager in New England. Absolutely fantastic..outside of that area highly questionable. That stuff fresh is prime.
