I went for a run outside. Now it is time to warm up. I have learned that it is never too cold to exercise outside, as long as you have the Rocky 4 training montage music on your headphones.

Amazing batch this year. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roasted coffee, caramel, maple syrup, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, smoke, char, and herbal hops. A little boozy/muted on aromas. Light-moderate herbal, char, roasted coffee bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full body; with a fantastic smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel. Light-moderate sticky hops, chalky char/roast, oak tannins, and increasing dryness. Minimal warming 11.7%, zero barrel booze. Dangerously smooth sipping. Perfectly balanced between barrel, malt, and chocolate/coffee flavors. This has some noticeable differences from KBS, but I don't prefer one over the other. Less coconut from barrels, added sappy maple syrup flavors. This year was a bit more charred/bitter/drying, but still spot on stuff. Glad I got a few, would get more. Still on the shelf in some places!

Good morning, campers! Rise and shine & don't forget your CAN koozies 'cause it's cooooold out there! Word is coming in from Punxy that we have six more weeks of beer ahead of us & you wouldn't want any of it to even marginally freeze. For those who participated in JanuQuenchy or Dry January, welcome back! Yinz may pick up where yinz left off, 'n' 'at. As for me, I am having:

This made me smile as much as yesterday's Hula In the Coola Day entry!

I am off to Valentino's Café, on the western edge of Lancaster later, for their 10th (?)/11th Annual Groundhog Day Party & Parade.

I might have gone to The Grey Lodge in PHL, but Lodgemaster Scoats is on the mend following surgery & I usually stay with him & his wife. Plus, it would mean another PHL excursion & I have never attended the Valentino's gig.

Word has it that the J.P. McCaskey HS Alumni Marching Band will be a part of the parade & I know that a couple of my classmates are attending so we may fall in as the band steps off. I'll report back later (if I'm not in the hoosegow)!

Amazing IPA as always. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, apricot, mango, citrus peel/rind, pepper, and pine hops; with moderate honey, toasted bread malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; balanced creamy/bready malt and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very drinkable and not overly aggressive. Even with the new hops they added for the 1.1 version, it still tastes like the original Chinook/Centennial hop profile the most. Perfectly balanced juicy and dank hop complexity; with a nice solid malt backbone. A true classic IPA. Pretty much just as impressive as the first time I reviewed it over 6 years ago. A lot easier to find fresh recently, I'll keep buying them. Price is hard to beat for 16 oz cans, same with the Arrogant Bastard.

Amazing batch this year, as usual. Flavors of huge cinnamon, mint, nutmeg, ginger, clove, vanilla, coffee, cream, and chili pepper spice; with balanced milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, fudge, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, and toasted dark bread malt sweetness. Mild herbal/spice and roasted bitterness; touch of char. Fantastic creamy, silky, velvety, and rich full body mouthfeel. Slight sticky spice, chalky roast, and increasing dryness. Dangerously smooth, minimal warmth of 13% or lingering pepper heat. Super rich and decadent. Perfect balance of spices and rich stout malt flavors. One of my favorite spiced stouts along with regular Bomb! Will grab more than I already did so far.

Deep ruby red color with lasting cap and lacing.

Dark roasted malt aroma underpinned by sweet chocolate.

Taste on entry is dark roasted malt that from mid palate on carries a sweet milk chocolate undertaste that evenly balances the dark, coffeeish malt. These flavors complement each other and level things out. The raspberry element mentioned on the label is in the background and there is just enough to notice.

    Full texture with balancing carbonation.

Ordinarily I don't seek out coffee or chocolate flavored brews because my tastes take a different path. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy a well crafted version and this one works very well.

Always amazing. Flavors of nutty medium roast coffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, and light smoke/dark fruit; with some herbal/woody hop and coffee characteristics. Light-moderate herbal hop and roasted coffee bitterness; full-ish body creamy/silky mouthfeel, with some light sticky/chalky roast notes as well. Lightly increasing bitter/roasted dryness. One of the most coffee forward beers I've ever had. Intense on fruity/nutty coffee complexity; and the base brown ale is spot on, and very well balanced. Like a brown ale version of FBS, and I feel it is equally as impressive. Still have a couple left from last year, smoothed out amazingly on bitterness after 13 months. Still some on the shelf too. Will definitely be getting more while I can. One of my favorites. Hope they bring it back next year.

Binge watched Homeland with Mrs. Z last night, so slept in this morning. A lovely day (66 degrees) for a long walk to the park and back with the doggies. Time to start my celebration - Birthday Bomb:

Today marks 59 years on this spinning merry-go-round. We have Localtopia, a St. Pete local businesses fair downtown (including several breweries) we plan on hitting, our pub’s monthly bottle share is at 3pm, and the wife made reservations at a great seafood restaurant for tonight...and the cable guy allegedly is coming between 5-6 to finally fix our cable! A full day for sure...Cheers and have a great Groundhogs’ Day!
