Enjoying this while waiting for a football game to be played.

 

Considering a second round . . .




Slightly hazy rich gold color with lasting white cap and lacing.

Aroma of rich malt and piney, herbal hops.

Taste is hop forward with bright, juicy hops springing forth from the glass and caressing the taste buds. This is a clean, shining hoppiness that emphasizes the piney and herbal aspects presented with a slight firmness that tapers off toward the finish. Malt is ever present supporting but not quite equaling the hop citrus brightness. Overall this is a very good example of an American Pale Ale in the mode of Sierra Nevada and others while providing a bit more flavor and character. I wish they would add this one to the year round schedule.

 

How was the D.C. Brau? I have not had that one.

 

Brasserie Lebbe L'Amalthée

 

Orval Trappist Ale, 6.9% ABV
Crisp, bretty, mineral, herbal flavors, somewhat flat. I like the taste, but I don't think this bottle is the best example of this beer.

 

The honey was prevelant, but otherwise enjoyable.

Muffuletta made early today, chili thickening, wing sauce just completed, wings in the air fryer. Let’s get it on!

 

Incredible IPA as always, one of my main classic favorites. Lasting thick head retention/lacing the whole glass. Aromas and flavors of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, light peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate toasted bread, light honey/caramel malt balance; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body. Balanced creamy/bready malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light lingering resins/rinds. Fairly crisp/drying, and extremely drinkable; never astringent. Never gets old, always fantastic. I will always love classic C hopped beers, even with all of the new hop varieties around. Awesome vibrant/juicy and fairly dank/earthy Centennial hops; great balancing bready Munich malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness from lingering crisp resin dryness. Got a super fresh pack last week. Will keep around more often than I have been in the last year.

Having this one at home now so I don't have to share it at the Super Bowl party later.

The rest of last night's party at Oswego Brewing Company was great. Two things I learned: 1) drinking a cream ale after a bunch of IPAs, a Porter, and a Belgian strong is pretty much like drinking a glass of water 2) their NEIPA Hay'z for Horses is probably their best and most popular beer.

They had a male/female guitar/banjo duo there last night. They did a pretty good version of this one when I requested some John Prine.
