Yeah they actually tapped it before the release this time. Getting good reviews from people who didn’t give BADS good reviews so maybe a good sign. If you like pastry of course.

This is good to know. Cans have been available in the cooler here at Orenco Taphouse the past few times I've been here. Tonight I almost bought a can, but opted for a glass of Imminent Haze IPA from Manifest instead.

(It's not bad, but I wouldn't order it again. Not my thang. But if you like hazy IPAs, don't let my comments stop you from trying it.)

I wonder how many kegs they have of this one. I didn't make it in time to get any barrel-aged Double Stack. But that was only one keg they had of that.

Why did the Great Notion thread get locked?

FWIW their website says Bourbon Barrel French Toast is still on tap so it's possible it didn't blow last night. Keep an eye on it around 11 to see if it disappears - it's driven by their digital untappd menu so it's always up to date. $8 for 5oz on this one too.

Because BA is forcing us to create new yearly threads for pretty much everything now. Someone should start a Great Notion 2019 thread if desired.

The funniest lock is the 2018 BA Victory at Sea thread lol, looks like it got mistaken for a timely OT rather than a thread about someone looking for a specific vintage of a beer that came out at the end of 2018.

But yes someone should creatr the Great Notion 2019 thread of thin-ness.

Several people have asked about starting a new GN thread. If no one else does it, I'll likely start a new one this afternoon when I receive the weekly email update from GN.

Looks like BA French Toast was pulled and replaced with a couple Horus sours.

Been waiting to post this info for a while (copied from our FB page.) Keep an eye out for The Oligarch and the variants around town soon! All of us at Breakside have been working hard on this project and can't wait for you all to enjoy.

An operation 2 years in the making, we let our imaginations run wild when we first began tasting these barrels. Deciding which versions would pair perfectly with different, special ingredients. The result is a series of 7 beers (the base-aged stout & 6 variants).

Inspired to create beers that reminded us of our favorite desserts, pastries & sweets - we have pulled flavors from our childhoods, travels & families to create these special stouts.

A family of flavors fit for a Czar -- come taste the whole bloc!

In this order, we would like to introduce our Oligarchy.

    Oligarch (original)
The Mother Russia of the series. The original power broker. A decadent Russian Imperial Stout aged in a blend of bourbons barrels for 24 months. This beer is sticky, rich, sweet and aggressive. Best shared with friends who tend toward excess and indulgence.

    Bocconotto
This variant of The Oligarch 2019 is comprised of 8 of the most intense barrels to come from this series. Aged on cinnamon bark, toasted almonds, chocolate and a touch of lemon zest, this beer is an ode to one of our favorite cookies, a specialty of the southern Italy.

    Candy Cap
This variant of The Oligarch 2019 is comprised of 9 of the most intense barrels to come from this series. These barrels showed incredible depth of character, including rich oxidative notes that make them a perfect pair for one of the Pacific Northwest's most beguiling foodstus: candy cap mushrooms. Cheers!

    Champurrado
This variant of The Oligarch 2019 is comprised of 8 of the richest casks from this entire series. Inspired by the flavors of Mexican champurrado, we aged this stout on a mix of cacao nibs, vanilla bean, and toasted corn.

    Coco Breakfast
This variant of The Oligarch 2019 is comprised of 7 of the most dessert-like casks to come from this entire series. We tookinspiration from our brewmaster’s favorite childhood breakfast cereal for this one, loading up the cocas and vanilla. To be big and strong, have lots of fun, drink Coco Breakfast everyone!

    Maple Oligarch
Now here is something special- version of The Oligarch, our imperial stout aged in Bourbon barrels, which has been aged for over two years in barrels that held both Bourbon and then maple syrup from Bissell Maple Farm in Jefferson, Ohio. Enjoy the wonderful sweetness that the maple barrels imparts into this intense and rich beer!

    Piedmontese
This variant of The Oligarch 2019 is comprised of 7 of the most elegant casks to come from this entire series. Inspired by the o-sweet cakes of northern Italy, we conditioned this blend of maple barrel-aged stouts on Oregon-grown hazelnuts and vanilla bean and added a touch of sea salt for depth. This is pastry stout gone fancy!

    PB & Oligarch
The original Oligarch conditioned on Raspberry & Almond.

    Bottles? Draft accounts? Both?

Also... Are these beers available at all Breakside locations? When can we expect to see these beers in pdx?

    Thanks!

All variants will be in 12oz bottles, except the PB & Oligarch which will be draft only to my knowledge. I believe the original Oligarch will be 22oz. I can ask about draft availability, but I think there will be a limited amount of draft for all variants at all of our locations. These should be available in time for Zwickelmania on Feb 16.

It looks like the full Oligarch series will be pouring at Belmont Station on Feb. 20, and at Loyal Legion from Feb. 21 through 24.

(The wording on the Facebook event for Loyal Legion suggests to me that the beers will be on tap over the course of the weekend, and all of them might not be available at any given time: "Join us at Loyal Legion on Thursday, February 21st through Sunday, February 24th; as we reveal our largest barrel-aged beer release to date - The Oligarchy.")

For the westside folks, ABV Public House in Hillsboro is having their Oligarch event on Feb. 19.

Having thoroughly enjoyed most of the bottled Breakside barrel aged offerings, I'll certainly be looking forward to the Oligarch base.

Old Lord Chubby Cheeks was delicious.

First few years of BA beers that I had from Breakside were pretty underwhelming. But over the past year or two i have had 3-4 that have been really good. this project sounds awesome

My take as well, though in my case, I'm not sure I've ever had a ba beer from breakside I thought was any great shakes. That's always surprised me, as Breakside is one of my favorite pdx breweries. Most everything else I've had from them I've thoroughly enjoyed.

So I've always felt they had the potential to make great BA beers, and am looking forward to trying these offerings.

Have you had BA Aztec? Braggadocio was really good, would like to see that one come back. Fourth Wave and BA Salted Caramel are solid imo.

Didn't ever try 4th Wave, but everything else you mentioned. All decent stuff, but not outstanding I didn't think. BA Aztec was probably the best of the beers you mentioned. Good, but not something I ever seek out.

Cultivating Mass was a BA porter they did and it was top notch. Also Old Lord Chubby Cheeks was a BA wheatwine i believe that was also very good. I think there was a small bottle format BA stout as well that was solid.

I just started noticing these small 12oz bottles that they were releasing every so often. I think most were $6-$7 and they were really good.
