I'm not chasing any of the Prarie Dawgs but I know a lot of people are. Thought id drop this here as it seemed extremely helpful for traders

*I DID NOT CREATE THIS LIST, if you did please post here to get credit.

A comment attached to this was it was from Prairie themselves but I cant confirm that, anyway here it is

I didn't realize there were so many different ones...

Omg and how I've kept myself from chasing so many times many of these have above 4.7 ratings with 22 users scoring. Total prop jobs. I hate what trading has become

Took another peak just now there you have it folks there are about 20 different prairie dawg bottles with higher ratings than Maman. Go at it i guess.

I was thinking the exact same thing, that the scores are mostly fabricated, and im sure in some cases they are, but after thinking about it for a bit, being single barrels with no worry of blending or mediocre barrels its either amazing or not. with 1 barrel to care of i can see some of these landing more on the amazing side.

but since i haven't had any, no idea if that theory is true or not

IDK how good all of them are, but I have tried one (Toasted and Mallow), and I have to say - it was pretty bleeping awesome. I'd put it around the same level as Bourbon Paradise. Definitely not a 4.7, but probably in the 4.5 range.

I will pile along with you. Had 2 dawgs so far. One was great, one was excellent. Of course, it's a small sampling. While I doubt any are equal to Maman (haha. Never had Maman, nor a whale), I'm not surprised with the high ratings on most with just a handful of checkins.

Personally, 1 of the dawgs was better than Bourbon Paradise. Bourbon Paradise was very good for sure. Super heavy bourbon, but vanilla and coconut was very subtle. That's not a bad thing, but basically it was tasting bourbon - which I do love. But hoped more going on, with all the rage I've heard of Bourbon Paradise the last year. Is there variation of Bourbon Paradise? I don't know. But I preferred Pirate Paradise over Bourbon Paradise. ymmv.

Have 2 more dawgs to open, and have several more coming enroute from partners...certainly stoked to try as many as I can.

I personally have not bought any, but I've seen a bunch sell for 30-35 ea, and also very attainable if you want to trade for. Probably just a few that trade high.

I would really love to try Pirate Paradise someday. I did try last year's BP, and it was awesome - but it was probably 4-6 months old when I tried it. Sometimes the bourbon heat mellows a little after a few months.

Jumping into this thread as I saw reference to Bourbon Paradise...can anyone tell me if BP is an annual release with distro, or is it brewery only, etc. I bought a couple bottles up in Maine a couple years ago but haven't seen it since and would like to grab another. Thanks!

I had a few more dawgs. Dang, they are so sweet!

The gingerbread one, ugh. The ginger was too strong. Ruined the beer. Could not finish.

I might retract my statement earlier, lol.

I still have 6 new ones to try. Fingers crossed!

IIRC, this year was brewery only.

I've had 2 dawg bottles and have a few currently that I'm going to drink. Everything I've had so far has been great and I continue to look for more.

How do these work though? Do members pick the ones they want off a big list? Or are they assigned specific ones? With so few ratings on each and the huge quantity of different ones, I have to assume not everyone gets them all. With such limited checkins, I also wonder if people are trading them away without ever trying them...

They trade them after and only after they rate it 4.75 or 5.

    Gotta boost that trade value:rolling_eyes:

Apparently it was something like you paid for the barrel of beer and the flavorings you wanted to add and then once it came out of the barrel you got the bottles

Yep, this is right. There is a list of "approved" adjuncts, or you can "take a risk" and use mostly anything (Oreos, honey, raspberries, etc). If it's something expensive or hard to get, the barrel owners have to foot the extra bill (there's a Dawg that uses Hill Farmstead maple syrup).

Most groups end up trading half their barrel away to get a variety of other Dawgs during pick up day, in addition to their Dawgs.

Some people sell off bottles to recoup the money they spent

And some complain to prairie that their beer is bad and want a refund lol

Chicago area saw a very small amount of BP in 2017. As stated, pretty sure it was brewery only release in 2018. Such a great beer. Had to trade for some and never saw it in the wild. After having one I thought it was good enough to land a few more.

Prairie distro has been incredibly erratic downstate. We had no distro, then it finally showed in a trickle, then we got a huge drop of different Noirs and Bombs, then back to a trickle, and now nothing again. Word is Prairie dropped Shelton and our distributor hasn't gotten them back in their portfolio? I dk how factual that is, but it's what I was told and we definitely aren't seeing it anymore. Someone more knowledgeable about PAA distro can probably confirm or deny the Shelton angle.

Just to add to the thread. This article tells a bit more about the membership. Also, the one person I've traded for a Dawg shared this with me. I'm just intrigued by the whole opportunity and how Prairie structures it as it is pretty unique. Hence my reason for sharing.
