2012 vintage. This was insane as expected. Aromas and flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, vanilla, biscuit, nuttiness, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, and herbal/peppery hops. Light herbal/spicy hop, roast/char bitterness; and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Light carbonation and full body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is amazing. Light slickness, chalky roast, and oak tannins. Lightly increasing lingering bitter/tannic dryness; no cloying/acrid flavors. Mild increasing warmth of 11%, no barrel booze. Insanely smooth sipper. This is even better than I remember more recent batches. It just gets better with age. Insanely rich/silky malts with perfect barrel integration. I got a handful of vintages a few months ago from a friend. World class RIS all the time. I prefer the base beer over a year old, just gets better after that.

Good morning BAs! The temperature is dropping back to the normal range and snow is falling, so it looks like the effects of global warming are over for another day or two here in NW PA. Today's New breakfast Beer:

    Nice malty, oaky IPA.

4 year revisit review. Omnipollo Maz. This was awesome. Great rocky head retention/soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, red apple, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, woody, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, 5.6%. Columbus, Amarillo, Chinook, Citra and Simcoe. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy hop complexity; with a nice wheat/oat/malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness from lingering resin dryness. Was one of the first hazy/NE style I had, with Fatamorgana being before it. Will be revisiting that soon as well. My score did not change for this one. 4.1

A definite top 10 album for me.

Another 4 year revisit! This was amazing as usual. Dense pour, great head retention/lacing for the ABV. Aromas and flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, red apples, brandy, toffee, vanilla, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of coconut, licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, leather, and tobacco. Touch of brandy booze in the aromas, but not overwhelming. Mild herbal/roast bitterness, and brandy/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel. Light slickness, chalky roast, and brandy/oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Slightly increasing lingering bitter/tannic dryness; no cloying/acrid flavors. Dangerously smooth, mild increasing warmth of 12%, no barrel booze. Just a bit better than I remember. Perfectly balanced rich malts and brandy barrel presence/integration. A lot smoother and less bitter/tannic than the last time I had it. 4.35

    Mornin' geeks!

A great breakfast stout by Clown Shoes for sure. Smuggled across state lines by @Dmott and his underground brew-way.

Wish they would bring back Rex
    That one was amazing!

This was incredible. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, white grape/wine, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bread dough, light honeyed malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malt and sticky hops; some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Insanely smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 9.4%. Amazing mixed profile of 12 different hops. Extremely juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balance hop complexity; with a nice bready malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. They really nailed this for sure. Hope they make another batch soon.

Another beautiful winter’s day here in SWFL; I walked the dogs around 7am and it was a sunny 64 degrees with a slight breeze. I’ve been cleaning the kitchen and sipping on this breakfast beverage since my return home - Backwoods Bastard:

Bottled 5/4/18. Not as sweet nor as bourbon forward as yesterday’s “Gravedigger Billie”, but still one of my favorites. When Mrs. Z arises, perhaps we’ll take the dogs to the Saturday farmers’ market downtown. Cheers!

Fantastic NEIPA. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, white bread dough malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Some resins/rinds and increasing lingering bitter dryness. No hop astringency. Very drinkable, not overly aggressive, 6.75%. A bit more drying that expected for the style; but the hops are super vibrant, juicy, dank, and earthy. Nice bready malt backbone with minimal residual sweetness. I liked the Mosaic a bit more than this one, but looking forward to trying other single hop variants eventually. Ellison is definitely a new local favorite since they started distributing. Very impressive across all styles.

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz open mouth Dragon’s Milk glass canned on 1/14/19. Pours a very attractive dark mahogany with a 2 plus finger sticky light brown head that leaves thick patches of lace behind with nice retention. 4

Smell is coffee, vanilla bean, cocoa nibs, and a little toffee. 4.25

Taste follows one dimensional but tasty just the same. Coffee, cocoa, vanilla, and a little biscuity toffee. 4.25

Mouthfeel is a solid creamy medium, plenty of life, maybe a little dry, and easy drinking but packing more flavor than most at 6.3%. 4

Overall this is another local treat, really what you expect from a beer like this and yum. Cheers 4
