    Hi all,

So for the first time in 42 trades I have a guy who is acting a bit sketchy.

We were both supposed to ship a box last Monday, I did and he did not. On Tuesday he apologized for the delay and advised he would ship Wednesday.

Wednesday came and went and I inquired again on Thursday morning. He again apologized and told me he would be shipping Friday. Meanwhile the box I shipped him was delivered safe and sound with several extras. On Friday I messaged him again confirming he would be shipping that day. He replied that he was going to. I’ve now sent messages yesterday and today asking for a tracking number and he’s read my messages but not replied.

He’s also been online every day, and now I realize he has five open trades… I’m getting very concerned.

He has three completed trades with good feedback, I know it’s low but it didn’t concern me at the time.

    Thoughts or advice? Thanks,

I think I would name him.

If he's honest he should at least be willing to accept that he's been a lousy communicator and will understand what you're doing. If he's not honest you can hopefully help some of the other people he has open trades with.

Do you know he was planning on shipping with (FedEx, UPS, USPS)? You would be able to see if the label was created if you have an account with the shipper. I have an account with FedEx and can open up the app and see if a label has been created.

You can at least see if he has taken any steps towards shipping your beers

Did they have reasons why they didn’t ship when they said they would? Send them one more beer mail and tell him without a prompt response and a tracking number you will be naming them in this thread.

He just now messaged and told me he decided not to ship due to the weather.

Potentially reasonable but his overall lack of responses has me concerned. I’ll give him the opportunity to get me a label by tomorrow...if not I’ll tag him here.

His prior reasons were that he was too busy. Pretty vague in general.

Too busy is not a valid excuse if you already had an agreed upon shipping date. He should be asking for your forgiveness for not shipping on Monday, not you chasing him. This guy is on the fast track to a short trading career. I hope he sends more than originally promised at this point.

Not to ship in cold weather is a valid concern, I’ve lost bottles, but to not communicate clearly is a major no no. Did you not trade phone numbers? Give him a call. You have 40 plus trades, he has 3 , he ships first unless you have someone you know vouch for him upfront.

This... Low feedback compels me to ask that person to ship first.

Hindsight is always 20/20 in these situations... No doubt. As a more experienced trader, I ask those with less than five completed trades on BA to ship first. I’m not sure what the standard around here is but that’s what I have done.

This seems pretty sketchy to me, but I guess I compare others to myself and hold a higher standard. For me, if I realized the weather was bad and decided to hold off on shipping, then my trading partner would have been the first to know. You don't hold off due to weather and just not tell the other side until they ask. Secondly, the "I got busy" excuse is way too played out. I've been trading for years and maybe only had that happen a few times on my side. When it has, I immediately tell the other side and apologize repeatedly for my mistake and delay. It's really not that hard to drop a quick communication and there's always a way to find time at some point during the week. Heck, I usually try to trade and make posts around times where I know I'll be able to get a box out in the event I needed to.

Not shipping on said date not a huge deal but logging on and no response? Reading your messages and no communication?

    Call this bum’s ass out.

Went back and actually read the rest of the thread. I stand by what I said, his communication would have been too little too late for me. No excuse for not keeping your trading partner updated.

Yeah. You also have the standard to have lower ratings ship first. Everyone reading this.... If you aren't doing this.... You need to

For op...ask a mod dm them to see if that kick starts his shipping

Let's see what happens. It would be nice if this could be resolved without having to go the BT route.

Hopefully @tspoke will come back on today and tell us that everything is cool, his trading partner provided him a label and his box is on the way.

Thanks all for the input and advice here. After several more prodding attempts, I finally got a tracking number (about an hour ago) so hopefully this is the end of it. Perhaps he read this thread and it motivated him?

I’ve never really given any thought to the “newbie ships first” approach, but my mentality is unfortunately going to change from now on.

    Cheers all

    how would you leave it?

positive (assuming he gets beer just fine) with the story of the poor communication?

Could be good noting bad communication and delayed shipping.

The description for Bad is "expectations were not met". In that case this if I was the OP, this trade didn't meet my expectations as I would expect beer to be shipped when we agreed to and would expect responsible communication, neither of which happened here. But I do realize "Bad" is generally reserved for egregious situations.
