Doing research for a story. I know this whole 100+ IBU thing is, uh, controversial, but I was looking for some beers that boast super high IBU content. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Can't really sort the beer listings on the BA site by IBU...yet? Thanks!

You can probably get a pretty good sense from my post. I'm gonna keep the details under my hat for now, since I haven't placed it in a mag yet. Don't want the the idea to get scooped.

Oh, you know what? I was reading "story" as in fiction. Pretty obvious now.

Supposedly your palate has an IBU threshold. Or hops have a limit to their utilization during the boil. Maybe it's both, I dont know.

Yeah, "feature" may have been a better descriptor. I use a lot of these words interchangeably.

Of the DIPAs that i have had, Stone Ruination, SN Hoptimum, Sixpoint Resin, Flat12 Half Cycle standout. However, i find even those just a tad less bitter for my palate. Searching for some kind of hop syrup.

I hope you will mention how ibu #'s aren't an accurate indicator of the experience a beer consumer can expect. IBU #'s by themselves don't tell the whole picture of the balance/bitterness one can expect as there are many more variables that go into the perception of bitterness. Its mostly useful to the brewer to obtain the balance he is looking for while taking all the other variables into consideration. Even though breweries use these #'s for marketing purposes, they are about as useful as telling customers their beer is triple hopped.
