Are those 'cellarable' beers (e.g., higher ABV, etc.)?

    Cheers!

I actually thought about this some time ago. I showed my wife where my beer spreadsheet is on the computer which contains rough values in case she wants to sell/trade them should I parish in a tragic bass fishing accident. Of course, she loves high ABV stouts as much as I do so she'd likely just drink them.

Beer is meant to be drank. Don't become one of those losers that collects it for the sole purpose of bragging about possessing it. Interesting people will not care about your collection. Interesting people will, however, enjoy talking about life while drinking some beer you.

I know this statement is going to ruffle some feathers here, but I'm sticking to it.

I agree with your perspective. I collect beer because I enjoy trying new beers. Every beer is a new experience. I don't bore my friends that don't care for beer with beer conversation just like some of my friends that are into restoring classic Chevelle's don't bore me with detailed classic car restoration conversation. It comes down to knowing your audience. Beer should help foster conversation, not be the topic of conversation.

Having too much beer really isn't a problem that's tough to fix. Having too little sometimes is a bigger problem.

This is a hobby. A fun hobby. If something that sounds really good is available, I might buy 3 or 4 bottles -- and probably give 2 away, share one, and MAYBE drink one myself. I've never bragged in my life about what I possess, and have plenty of friends who aren't really into craft, but appreciate the fact that I try and share stuff THEY will like anytime we're together. And maybe I'm lucky, or hang around the right circles, but (while I realize they exist) I've honestly NEVER met anyone who brags about what they possess. As a group, the beer advocate folks I know are among the most generous and self-deprecating people I've ever known.

If anyone's feathers are ruffled, I guess that would be those people you mention, who collect to brag. I just don't think there are really THAT many of them.

And I realize that none of the above (like your post) has ANYTHING to do with the original poster's question. But you said "Beer is meant to be drank". I'd amend that to "Beer is meant to be drank, and shared, and be a common thread to meet a bunch of folks with common interests"

I've been learning too. I got a small 3 shelf beer fridge(no freezer) and I could fill it up. But it's like my growlers, most of the time I can't drink all that beer(32 ounce) by myself. Now I've fallen in love with IPA's and most of the time these should be consumed as fresh as possible. I'm usually drinking them by myself. Craft beer was meant to be shared. I should stop buying but I find stuff all the time I can't live without. New stuff is showing up all the time in my area of DFW Texas like Bell's Hopslam. I've got to have some because I saw it on the BA and they're almost always right about how good it is. I have some stuff aging at room temp and have been there a while. Mostly hi-amp Stouts like the Bomb, Mephistopheles and 120 Minute IPA. Thankful for all who ship to Texas and will gamble my money on a six pack. My new beer supplier, Total Wine, now has shelves and shelves of room temperature singles I can pick and choose to try. Grateful for that too. From Washington State to Maine to FLA to San Diego, I want to try them all. God Bless each and everyone of you for that journey. PROST!

I'm not to worried about my beer after I'm gone. My 2 Sons and a couple of good friends are into beer. They all have already been told to plan a week or two of vacation when I croak so that they can drink up my beer and shoot up my ammunition! I've even given permission for them to talk about me or tell stories!
