Standard market had unwind your mind and even dun dun dun on the floor for over a week after release, but tavern cut was gone within an hour. Think there were definitely some neckbeards out buying all of it they could carry.

within a year or two it'll probably be everywhere and easily attainable. either HB will expand their brewing capacity or people will be moving onto the next big thing.

My local beer store guy said that there were 3 new cans coming out this Wednesday. Anyone know what they are?

They update whenever they are canning. Mega Bite, Symbols of Math and Wintry Mix. The last 2 being brand new ones.

Don't let your significant other have Hop Butcher. My wife (who to this point has been meh each time she has tried stuff from HB) drank half my 4 pack of Mirror Ball, felt bad, so came home with Unwind Your Mind and Grid to make up for them, and then promptly started drinking those out from under me as well....:slight_frown: This is like having a truck chaser with access to your own fridge!

Ovie Market below the tracks at Ogilvie Train Station has single cans of Mirrorball, Unwind Your Mind, Dun Dun Dun and Tavern Cut. $8 a can.

On Friday we did a blind taste test of a bunch of hazy IPA’s. 2 each from Monkish, Alvarado St, Moonraker and Great Notion. Then Space Boots And Tavern Cut. Tavern Cut came in dead last by a healthy margin.

How did space boots hold up against monkish and great notion?

You're supposed to mention that BEFORE they chase the Hop Butcher truck.

I can see Monkish and some Alvarado, but the other two surprise me. I haven't had anything above average from either of them.

...which means they must be better than Hop Butcher. I kid, I kid...it's been too long since I've made a comment to rile up some people around here.

I could see myself liking some HB stuff better than Monkish for sure - most of their beers haven't hit the mark for me. I still haven't had Tavern Cut, though, so I can't speak to how I think it would've fared. I definitely preferred DDH Space Boots to the Bomb Atomically I had recently.

Mind sharing what other specific beers were in there and the order?

This is what baffles me about hop butcher. It doesn't make the cut against other hyped haze, yet disappears from shelves in hours. Their beers lean heavy on the sweet side of haze, which is par for Chicago but not east/west coast haze. Most of their beers are good, but not at the level to which people should be rushing out of work mid-day to find it.

If it is the best or on par with things in the area, why wouldn't they rush out to ensure they get them? The other hazies aren't available in the Midwest so you may as well compare them to something from Mars.

I gotta ask... did you guys get a weird onion-y aroma from Tavern Cut that followed the taste a bit?

Unwind Your Mind was so much better than Tavern Cut in my opinion.

There are 2 reasons, I think.

    1) They're the only place in Chicago that's consistently releasing different canned beers into distro, so they're an easy go-to.

    2) I agree that not all their stuff is on par with the top-tiered stuff, but you'll find people on this forum that would tell you some of their top releases stack up to pretty much anything. Their sweet stuff I can definitely see being off-putting; I just generally consider their best stuff to not be the really sweet shit.

The main issue with HB, imo, is that they release way too much different stuff. They should be putting out Galaxy Bowl and another one or two beers every couple months, at the very least (in the same way that M-43 and PS are constantly being shipped).

I'll also admit I'm pretty surprised how many dissenting voices about Tavern Cut I've seen. I'd right it off as people not liking the "green" edge I got from it, but I'm also wondering if people don't like Vic Secret with Citra; I personally loved the combo and the beer.
