I would think that shooting a skunk would create quite a 'mess' from a stink perspective.

I have a carport as part of my home and I remember driving home one evening (after dark) and as I was driving up the driveway I saw two eyes in my carport reflecting in my headlights. I immediately stopped the car and parked far down the driveway and very slowly and quietly walked to my front door and got in (with the strategy to not frighten the skunk). As I expected the skunk was gone the next morning and my carport did not stink from the skunk spraying.

Frankly, I do not miss that landscaping/nursery business selling out/closing.

    Cheers!

Could do, but sort of depends on the Calibre and where you hit the skunk. Just don't leave it lie around very long.

Do you remember the last time you drank a Rolling Rock?

Hmmmm.. at least 5 years probably more, I look at it and funny enough zero nostalgia. I look at retro Bud bottles and get the urge.

I remember being in Elgin, Scotland in July 1970. It was daylight towards midnight but cool to me. That day the headline in the local news declared there was a heatwave. It was about 70 degrees and simply beautiful! Things are truly relative. It was long angled light.

Agreed. I think the cursive type used for their current label is terrible and I think the 90s type was alot more pleasing to the eye.

Both Gaffel and Jever are now available in cans in the US. While I’ve seen that other people have bumped into them in the wild, I’ve only ever seen either at places owned by Ed Raven.

You can add French and Belgian beer in green 750s to that list. I don’t always get a skunked character in those, but I have had some with it.

Bellmore Beverage currently has Jever in cans (at least according to their latest BeerMenus update - 3/6). Of course, who knows how old it might be. Hicksville and Bellport have it in bottles, same caveat.

Ed Raven owns "places"? What kinda places - Edgar Allen Poe-themed restaurants / pop-up discount Hallowe'en costume shops?

(Gotta say I was surprised when I found out that Raven Imports was owned by Ed Raven. But then I was surprised when I found out, back in the '70s that the "BILOW LIQUORS" retail store & bar chain in NJ was owned by Ludwig Bilow [RIP]).

Yeah, I was concentrating on the pre-craft era "greenies". By the time those Imports became common on US shelves, I'd long ago learned my lesson.

Anybody who picks up a can, turns it upside down and reads the date code knows. Still waiting for the app for that, tho'. Or maybe a little mini-drone with video camera? (It'd have to ask a customer to cooperate and flip the can.)

I suppose a phone call could work, too - if one gets a non-lazy/bored employee*.

    * Resisted making a "!@#$ Millennial" comment there  - hey, I remember being a "lazy longhair and/or hippie". Not just being called that, either, but actually being one!

Yep. And some of the best Saison Duponts I've had have been skunked green 750s.

Looks like he does. Seems to have started as one of the earliest employees of Brooklyn Brewery - a former telemarketer who was hired by Hindy & Potter as a salesman (they were still contract-brewing, so no actual brewery workers were yet needed) and who was eventually offered stock options to buy into the company (he never did). Although, in their Beer School book, he is referred to numerous times as "Ed Ravn" (tho' I can't claim that's why I didn't link him with Raven Brands).

Went on to found the importer Raven Brands, the Brooklyn bottle/growler shop, Brouwerij Lane, the brewpub "Dirk the Norseman", the "farm brewery" Annicka, and Greenpoint Beer & Ale Co. His FACEBOOK entry doesn't list the latter, but this current Greenpointers article does:
That article goes on to quote him saying:
...which apparently doesn't extent to Jever with its 15 month suggested shelf life. :astonished:

I’m running to buy some beers today probably Crowley’s from Gate City Growlers, if they were closer Resident Culture is releasing multil cans at noon. I saw a ton of Jever on the shelf this week, more than usual so I might guess it’s new stock. What am I looking for in relation to finding the date on the bottle and reasonably dating the bottles. I understand 15 month best by, should be as simple as best by and count backwards. 15 months seems a bit optimistic for any beer in this style, but if it’s close to 6 months I’ll buy a few. Just wish Bestway didn’t put them on a top shelf sucking up the light on top of the age.

Pretty sure the rear bottle label now lists both the Bottling and the "Best before" dates (the cans I saw did), for the math-challenged. I'd ask a store for sixpacks from a closed case, if possible. And if they say "No.", reply "Well, next time --- maybe."

Beer in green bottles stored under florescent light will become light struck within a few days, so in that case the "age" since bottling becomes meaningless.

Don't know how it goes in the US, but Jever is actually a specimen of North German pils, that means it's dryer and more bitter in common. Average german pils is relatively sweeter and loose. Otherwise, you might have another point of view.

It’s really a shame, the whole section of German beers are bombarded by UV light both from above and from the cold case. Those beers have no shot to be decent, and I think this beer store is declining, there’s empty shelves in the cold case where they used to be slam full. There’s local competition too, in its heyday this place was heavily shopped, I don’t get that feeling now. Young kids are running the beer part so I assume they don’t know any better.
