The context of the local market is important to understand as well. The quality of what you can get at even an average beer store has increased dramatically in the last five years. It's not that I hate Trillium or I think their beers are terrible now, I'm just not motivated to take a long(er) drive and spend top dollar for beer that may or may not be better than what they're selling five minutes down the road.

Derivative is not a worse beer than FPPA and it gets shipped nearly to my doorstep! That isn't a slam on Trillium even, Proclamation is just good.

Perhaps because you never received a beer from one of the inconsistent batches?

    Cheers!

I did have some from the new batches. My buddy I trade with actually asked me to tell him if I see the changes being discussed. We were talking about all this at the time and he wanted to get my opinion regardless of good or bad. So I tried to pay extra attention to them at the time to see if they were off. Honestly they did not seem any different, the only new item I noticed was a slight increase in bitterness over the older ones but that was very minor. The flavors were still on point and it was a nice mouthfeel. So from my take I would score the new items as the same with maybe a minor increase in bite over the old stuff.

I just asked to have some Trillium beers sent to me as it’s been a while since I’ve had any. I see some comments that the change is “fermentation profile” and some that say the hops don’t “pop” anymore. I’ve used both the yeast strains mentioned above and in a few cases the exact same wort was split and fermented with each strain. I enjoyed both, I prefer LA3, so that’s what I normally use. I don’t think it’s possible that simply changing the strain between those two turned fanboys into haters. I also can’t help but notice that Trillium (from everything I’ve seen) is still selling massive volumes of beer and their ratings and reviews online are still overwhelmingly positive for the majority of their releases. I think we have a very vocal minority here that is noting the “significant” differences.

Nothing to back it up? I had slo turbo. It was a chalky mess. The WORST examples of the style that I have previously had pale in comparison to how terrible that beer is. It's just another example of midwest dickpumping though. Toppling Goliath fits that same bill for me. I had pseudo sue, king sue, morning delight and they were all subpar compared to other, less hyped, breweries i have had beers from.
To say my opinion has no merit is pretty ballsy though. I just assume it means you drink fucking sewage though.

Weedy, please post your thoughts in this thread once you have had an opportunity to drink these Trillium beers.

    Cheers!

Yeah, that was a funny discussion and I'm glad I caught it before it was vaporized. The reports about Yale Terrace seemed 100% legit terrible experiences across the board though, unlike Trillium discussions where it's just a small but extremely vocal minority. If you imagined ways that a new small brewery could be bad, then Yale Terrace was (still is?) checking all of the boxes.

Let’s not assume. It makes you look quite silly.

Well, you know your right. I go down to the corner and pull up a growler full of sewer water every day.

I am glad you only drink unicorn piss and dragon spit in your state.

Glad your opinion is based off one beer.

When your OP is “And they suck.” With nothing else at all ........

    Enjoy

I've stayed completely out of the Trillium thread due to the controversy about the quality of their beers, but I do agree the changes in fermentation profile are noticeable. I used to drive out to Canton and Boston regularly because Trillium was the cream of the crop. Last few times I went, after the changes, most of their IPAs were noticeably different and not for the better. And I know my palate hasn't changed because other top notch producers like Tree House and other, lesser known locals have remained consistently top notch. I thought I had worn out my Trillium beer love for some unknown reason, until I saw dozens of others on here having the same experience. I loved Trillium, so it's not about hate. I still want them to be the best. But they aren't. I'm sipping a Cambridge Brewing Co. NE DIPA and it's miles better than anything Trillium has made in the past year. Unfortunately.

I can't really comment on the current consistency issues, because I largely stopped drinking Trillium on account of previous consistency issues.

The short version is that I don't think things have ever been quite the same since they moved to Canton.

Dang, I loved Pseudo Sue. What are these other less hyped breweries making killer beer, if they are killing it would be cool to know so I can look out for them :beers:

    Cheers

Mikerphone Brewing for the Great Lakes subforum and it’s not even close when it comes to that region.

Toppling Goliath use to be tops for hate in Midwest but there isn’t even appreciation/release thread for 2019.

My point is, regardless of number of beers consumed from hoof hearted, both of our opinions are valid. The fact that you had to belittle my opinion because you've had more beers shows the hubris and ego I have come to expect from you and the bulk of the craft beer scene in general. The fact that you couldn't identify the hypocrisy of your second post is just icing on the cake.

    I like cake.

Your post said one thing and only one thing. “And they suck”

How you can make that quote based off one beer is crazy. Maybe it was an old can, bad batch maybe just a beer you did not like.

Basing your opinion on having one beer from any brewery is crazy in my book. There are plenty of breweries that gave beer I do not like but have other beers I do like.

Reading your mid west rant above I can only guess that Colorado has by far the best beer brewed on earth and only from small unknowns that I will never be able to have.

Sorry you traded beer and got screwed.

I’ll now end my conversation with you.

    Enjoy

I haven't had any bad brewery experiences, but when there is loud country music going on, that really kills the vibe for me.
