and it is drinking the same. drinking last year's right now, stored the whole time at 40 degrees F. i'm a believer in hops losing their aromatic qualities quickly and devolving into a rotten banana/overripe tropical fruit thingy, but i feel like hopslam has this quality even when uber fresh. if i didn't know this was almost a year old i'd never have guessed it. cheers to bell's quality control i guess.

I age several every year. Mine drop off a good bit, turning into what we joke as "Maltslam". I love it like that.

I have one from last release, waiting till a fresh batch comes out so I can do a side by side. That's the only way to see how much a beer has changed.

If you stored it at 40 degrees, you didn't "Cellar" it, you left it in a refrigerator.

You really think it didn't change over the year? You must have never had a Hopslam that was in-fact "Hoppy" then, because there is no way a year-old Hopslam isn't all malt.

This isn't a "Quality Control" issue, it's a palate issue, a certifiable miracle, or some type of voodoo-mystic-witchcraft, but Quality control has nothing to do with it..... If it's not your palate, then pick whatever of the two remaining choices seems more plausible to you.

I personally don't care for Hopslam that much one way or the other though, but certainly don't think age helps it.

I'm not trying to be mean, don't want it to come across that way, but not everything can be dismissed as "well that's just like, your opinion man"

I could say "Pliny the Elder is a malty mess.... basically not hoppy at all, and I've had it on tap, 1-week old bottles, etc" and it would be easy for me to say, "oh that's what I taste" Is that just an opinion, or something completely different?

I cellared a Hopslam and I liked it,
The taste of the faded hops...
I cellared a Hopslam just to try it,
I hope BA doesn't mind it.
    It felt so wrong,
    It felt so right.
    Don't mean it's now a barleywine tonight.
I cellared a Hopslam and I liked it (liked it).

Is it bad/awkward that I had to sing this to myself as I read it to get the full effect? Well done sir, well done.

Did you read my post, in which you quoted? Where do I say "You said it got better with age" ?

He said it tastes the same (which I stated immediately) and I said (in so many words) "You is cookoo on the coco-puffs home-slice"

And provided what I believe the problem to be.

So, to summarize, I think he's either never had truly fresh Hopslam, or his palate is some sort of crazy anomaly, and I think you you have problems with your reading comprehension or you've drank too much old Hopslam prior to responding.

certainly don't think age helps it = it gets worse with age, not stays the same...

It doesn't me OMGAWD!, he twisted his words and said that the OP said hopslam improves with age.

edit: To put it more succinctly, help does not have the exclusive definition of improves, especially when reading this phrase as a whole. cheers!
