A lot of beer burnout these days stems from our near incessant need to seek out the new, the exciting, the fresh and undiscovered in beer. As with adult relationships, this pattern of promiscuity ultimately leads to an inability to forge a real, lasting connection with a single, satisfying brand.

I get "beer burnout" about twice a year. An easy fix for me is to go macro for a week or two, as in drinking Bud Light or similar mass produced lager. Makes you realize just how good crafts can be.
Another "Beer Depression" issue I have recently dealt with is, as an avid untapped user, I find that often instead of ordering a beer I have previously had and loved, I forgo it to order something new (and thus up my untappd numbers). That can be a vicious cycle as well. I want that great beer, but I want to up my new beer number.
    Insanity comes in many forms.

I don't really get beer burnout, its fun to try new items and old favorites. Moderation has been key to my enjoyment of it all.

I did not know there was a term for this but when I'm reading it now I definitely have felt this in waves in the last couple of years.

This often happens to me when I realize I have a pretty good-sized collection of great beer, I have bought everything that I have wanted recently or for the season (for example, stout season), and my wishlist is shrinking. Then, suddenly, one, two, or sometimes more, amazing looking beers pop up in my Instagram feed from local breweries that I follow and enjoy. I think, "well, I probably shouldn't pass up on those; they look amazing. I'll just buy one or two", and then the collection continues to grow and more money is spent.

The burnout is when you realize you really don't really "need" those beers; you recognize that you already have a lot of great beer, but you decide to buy that new beer anyways. Sometimes you also have buyer's remorse when overbuying (buying two or more bottles instead of just one) or when you just purchased multiple bottles of something and you feel like you shouldn't buy that next beer because you JUST bought those new beers.

There are so many great beers that we haven't yet tried, new and interesting beers available all year round, constant special releases, new breweries, etc. There's just too much out there!

Having all this good beer available to us all of the time is a good problem to have but also a problem nonetheless for many reason: spending money unnecessarily, the stress of decision making, especially on trades, "wasting"/spending time on social media, asking others to help obtain beer for us, traveling further for special releases, etc.).

I'm only burnt out on hype.

Having chased and acquired some of the must-have-to-make-life-complete beers, I almost always come to the same conclusion:

    - Not worth the effort I put into it
    - Not worth the cost I put into it
    - Not even the best of the style, as my local brewery makes a better one

There are exceptions that are worth the hype - but by and large, most have been a letdown. So I don't chase anymore, and I'm happier for it.

I got into craft about 3 years ago after drinking almost no alcohol for 15 years or so. Now I'm really into high-ABV BA stouts, though I generally only have one beer about four nights a week. I haven't burned out, but sometimes think back to the time I wasn't compelled to visit the local craft stores twice a week or travel to beer meccas out of state every so often - and pay thousands a year for those pricey beers I favor. Sometimes I think I might not miss it much. I have a few minor medical issues that I suspect might one day lead to me being told not to drink, but until then...

    One awful piece.

I have like Andy Crouch's pieces more often than not. I guess the "short reprieve" was the tacit nod to a period of abstinence but seems a little more time spent discussing "dry Jan" would be appropriate or is that taboo for ba.

    This part seemed almost silly:

"Beyond these options, other restorative methods include honing your tasting abilities through concentrated note taking or blind tastings with friends. Taking a deeper look into a small number of beers, especially when mixed with the excitement of not knowing what you’re drinking, can jump-start seemingly moribund interest."

That drivel seems like fighting boredom with reading War and
    Peace.

I love most BA articles but this one was not up to par (IMO).

Totally experience this as well, and I do the same thing with Untappd!! I can resist beefing up my stats by ordering something new.

I find a good couple of capn and cokes is a delightful change from beer as well. Shaved ice, then booze, then coke. Always in that order.

Always trying new stuff. But there are plenty of times I Just get a Firestone Walker or Sierra Nevada six pack instead.

I get it with too many hoppy beers for to long a period. I mostly stick to Pils and aals to avoid the palate fatigue. But..... a great ipa is my favorite, I just refuse to drink what I consider to be middle of the road offerings. Not worth the palate fatigue.

My love of whiskey keeps me from ever reaching a “beer burnout” state, but if I find myself torn on what to drink, or wanting a beer but nothing sounds good, I gravitate back to traditional/German styles and all is well.

I get that a little bit with marzen/Oktoberfest beers, stouts, bock, rausch beers, as they are strong and flavorful, but I always keep Rothaus pils, Eku pils, or Fruh kolsch beers around, as they have great taste, never get heavy on the tongue or stomach, and go down way too easily.

I find myself looking at beer the same way.

In fact, I should be able to find some Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout today or tomorrow. I've never had it, so wouldn't mind trying it. But if the cost isn't reasonable (just like Canadian Breakfast Stout - great beer but not worth the $25 asking price), then I'll forego KBS and settle for Ten FIDY or a Big Bad Baptist variety instead.

I end up with burnout because I have that ridiculous desire to try the new X from brewery X. I am like an adolescent like that, I blame it growing up in the Pokemon generation, gotta catch 'em all. I just delete the beer finder and beer check in apps, have a few SNPs for awhile and I am A-OK
