Typically I avoid these kinds of releases but I've always wanted to try this beer. Anyone know how these releases go? Can one show up later in the day and still get a bottle or two?

A few minutes later... Not to answer my own question but it looks like later in the afternoon is a safe bet according to threads about the last couple of releases.

Oh man, I opened up what I think was the october '16(B2) release a couple months ago...maybe one of the best stouts I've ever had. Was very boozy and hot when I had it the day of purchase but smoothed out and was just unreal.

For those who love BA stouts but don't care about sugary adjuncts, this is your beer

I can never bring myself to drive all that way for a release, but was pleasantly surprised when I went to York River Landing last year and they had a 3 year vertical on tap. It really is one of the better barrel aged stouts you will ever taste.

Anyone try any older bottles recently? I have a fall 2016 in the cellar.

I worked at the Portsmouth Brewery years ago when Todd was making Kate the Great. I had the pleasure of trying the un-oaked base beer a couple of times. It is the silkiest, smoothest, most complex Impy stout in existence. I miss Kate, but MtL is fantastic.

Last year I showed up around 3pm and there was no line but they were just about at capacity. When we left an hour later it was 1-in / 1-out, with a line about a dozen deep.

From what I understand, that's generally how it goes once they work through the initial line. Busy, but not overly so. You may wait 10-20 minutes to get in, or you'll walk right up to the bar no problem.

Sounds like almost every tap room in the Boston area on a Saturday afternoon.

Every release I think this is the release I'm going to pull the trigger and drive up for. Given this year's is 2 days before my birthday I think that's a sign that its time to go!

Thanks for posting. Considering a road trip for this. Its been on my beer wants for quite a while and sounds like it may not be TOO crazy of a scene.

I've been to several MtL releases - if this is 9, I've been to 5 of the previous.
It's a good time, and the beer is excellent. I do miss the porchetta from When Pigs Fly, though.
I would like to go to this one, I don't know if I'll get the day off by SWMBO.
I may have to call in some of her breakfasts with her friends... but I don't know if it'll be enough, especially with NERAX a couple weeks before.

I think I've had the porchetta before, and I also think I remember it being incredible.

As much as I love this event, if I had to choose, I'm choosing NERAX. Good luck!

If you're talking about last fall, that's about the time I showed up, too. Busy, but flew right through the line. Pretty easy. Feels like these are lasting longer and longer into the day, which is great. I'm down to one bottle left from last Spring, so looking forward to the new batch.

So MtL release is tomorrow (Saturday.) Anyone else going?
I'll be meeting up with a couple friends and heading up, hoping to get there before open.
Wonder how big a lineup there'll be. It does move pretty quick no matter what.
Looks like there will be several food options as well...

I thought I could make the trip up tomorrow, but a few things changed my plans.
Anybody that goes and is willing to swap a bottle message me as Id like to try this stout finally.

Looks like bottles lasted until Sunday afternoon around 2ish......like five minutes before I showed up. Eh, still got a pour and it was excellent, as always.

I got bottles for the first time since batch 1 and I was really impressed. Such a delicious and well balanced beer. All the barrels play really nice with each other.

b.9 on draught was a proficiently layered, sharp, and clean RIS with next to no heat/abv awareness

The aroma started off on a fudgy brownie batter note, with bitter, chocolatey espresso via palate alongside the fruited dark malts. Development yielded more cherry, plum, fig, and ripened/earthy prune (ness) with a well attuned tannins presence, faint cherry cola, and a vinous circumference. A distantly wood smoked and whiskey spiced element kept one in ponder…cloves, cinnamon chips, arguably nutmeg = The barrels were orchestrated quite nicely, and can’t wait to dive into (play around with) the bottle

On another note, would love to see Mott tap some of the vintages at “these” releases, or perhaps at an off-event (e.g. anniversary), as “The York River Landing” event looked great
