Is because none of our local stores have any.

Have you traded with someone from Jack's Abby's distro area for some Hoponius Union?
I think IPL should be a style but what do I know.

I see them every now and then. Don’t like em. Cheers.

I have received some Jack's Abby beers through trades but not that one. I've also picked up a few IPLs here and there and while they don't make me do handsprings I would try more if they were available.

There is little to distinguish them from IPA. I fail to see the benefit of using lager yeast unless it's to the brewery that harvests, cultures, and uses only a house lager yeast. For the drinker there is no great difference, and I have had a decent sampling to make that judgement.

With the qualifiers of "little" and "no great difference" you seem to have this topic covered but...

For the IPLs that I have tasted they had the quality of being very dry, drier than any IPA that I have had until the recent 'new' sub-style of Brut IPA.

    Cheers!

Cool, I am sure I will run across some really dry versions, just as I have run into really dry IPA. To me the idea of lagering is kind of authentic for hoppy pale ales, since once upon a time they were barreled. But at the same time it doesn't seem to add anything truly distinctive IMO.

If they help brewers I like to sell more beer I am in favor of them.

Yup. You stated previously "little" and "no great difference".

I certainly would not argue that very dry finish = "truly distinctive" but I personally notice the difference.

    Cheers!

Philly area is fortunate to have so many great breweries, Victory being one of them. Their Homegrown Lager is a very good IPL.

The feel and finish of pale lagers is vastly different than that of pale ales. IPAs are far more popular than German light lagers. Don't get me wrong, I love IPAs, but from time to time there's just nothing like a crisp, clean Helles or pilsner.

I love the marriage of the clean, malty lager base with american hops and hope more beer drinkers embrace them. Which, selfishly, would mean more availability and variety of IPLs for me.

I concur on fathom. It was a good ipl and much better than the beer it is today.

I was going to say that the few Brut IPAs that I have had all remind me of IPLs. They certainly share the quality of having a dry, clean finish.

If you get a chance, PipeDream Brewery out of NH makes a solid IPL

Jack's Abby Hoponius Union and Mass Rising are really good, if you need to have an IPL.

IPLs are super under-represented. SOS from Abita locally is pretty solid. Wish I got distro from Jacks Abbey.

Maybe they'll add that when they add Grisette and Kentucky Common.
