The Canton thing seems like as much a consolidation as an expansion, so that makes a lot of sense to me.

I guess the first restaurant must be doing well if they're already opening another one, but I remain more skeptical of those ventures in the long run. Someone who really likes Trillium is probably going to get mad at me for saying that, but the restaurant business just sucks in general. They go out of business all the time. I don't really see how a second restaurant, so quickly after the first, puts Trillium on a more sustainable path in the long term.

They have so much business in the Seaport that they aren't worrying about cannibalizing their own market in town. Pretty crazy. They're all about the growth. Will be interesting to see how big Trillium will get.

Interesting how they said the wage scandal is gonna slow down their plans for the farm. It doesn't seem to be slowing down much for them in other areas of the business but maybe they were going to be more aggressive with the farm plans early on.

I wonder what the rush to grow so fast is?

They're starting to resemble Wicked Weed. I never thought I'd say it, but with everything that's been happening in the past 6 month's, I can definitely see a buyout in the future.

Future Buyout? They’ve been bought out already....This is pretty obvious

i thought the Fenway location was going to be just a taproom/beer garden type deal that is year round and the new Canton location will feature a restaurant.

Fenway is def a play to capture some of that Red Sox action in season, can’t fault them for that. Plus it’s on the green line so they get easy access to the wealthy folks in Longwood, Brookline, Chestnut Hill, Newton etc which is their target demo

That makes a lot more sense.

Wouldn’t something like that have to be announced somewhere?

This is how I read it too.

“The location will be a year-round taproom, comprised of a 1,500-square-foot structure designed by Studio Troika that, according to the post, will “blur the lines between outdoor beer garden and cozy indoor taproom.” In the warmer months, patrons will be able to enjoy a beer on the taproom’s open-air patio, while the enclosed glass walls will keep imbibers cozy inside during the winter. The taproom will accommodate 100 people, while the patio area will hold around 150.”

PE is typically infused on the quiet side for brands like Trillium trying their hardest to keep the “young dumb farm kids” vibe alive and well

tbh, all of this turns me even farther away from their brand.

Read through the new note explaining the Fenway/canton plans. There’s like one line taking about beer; the beer is a secondary/backseat part of their operation now. Good luck to them I guess

This seems to be an unpopular opinion but I'm looking forward to being able to grab a couple pours of Fort Point before a Sox game someday.

I seriously don’t understand why people hate on small local breweries that become successful. It’s hiprter-ism to such an annoying degree. Not here to debate the flavor profile of the beer or employee mistreatment, but jeez lets skewer a business for expanding and trying to get their product into the hands of consumers willing to pay for it.

There’s organic growth, success and expansion and then there’s this. Tell me you don’t get kind of a weird vibe about this on top of all the shit that’s been going on with them? It just feels like they’re pumping a brand instead of a product. I’m not hating, I just think it’s odd.

"They're definitely a marketing company that just so happens to make beer"

If the beer was better and more affordable no one would be saying a word. There's a reason people are salty.

Look at Other Half’s expansion plan. New Brooklyn location, Rochester, and DC. However they haven’t had had the negative attention Trillium has had and none of the locals are really complaining. Just like plenty of other breweries like Tree House shilling overpriced eggs and selling out in hours.

If they said they planned on distributing and expanding to other states, I definitely think you’d have a valid point and I agree it would be “selling out”, but it seems they are trying to get the product into locals hands. Bottom line is if the beer was the same quality there wouldn’t be this reaction.

Local company expands local footprint. Barely sells product in any form outside of company stores. Emphasis on product is on beer name, not brand name. Company is a marketing company that has obviously sold to big investors. MAKES SENSE

Just to be clear - this is another place to buy trillium beer, but with no real additional beer production (I can't imagine much of the 1,500 square feet will be dedicated to making beer). So either:

    1) Trillium is having trouble selling enough beer through Canton/Ft Point alone and need a new outlet to get through what they're making.
    or
    2) This is just a giant expense by them with no additional revenue stream.

If it's the former, this doesn't seem like a cost effective solve. If it's the later, we can assume they just enjoy spending more - almost as much as they enjoy making money. I have to echo the sentiments that this seems like a ridiculously expensive and masturbatory marketing move when most of their clientele would probably prefer lower can prices than two trillium locations in boston proper.

    3) They plan to increase production capacity at the new Canton facility.

Also, on-site draft and bottle pours have very high profit margins for them, so even if they're not selling more beer, they can be selling more of it at a higher cost.

They are going to make a ton of money with this venture.
