Pours with a frothy two fingers of head which settles down to full curtainy lacing.
    Smells like fresh blackberries
Nice mellow sour plums and blackberries. There are supposed to be blueberries as well which may show up as the glass warms.
5% ABV, full body, smooth feel
They have this in cans for awhile. I stopped in to get Space Opera, stayed to drink Berry Berry.

A beautiful, breezy day. Did a run to recycling, made some seitan for dinner tonight, took the cover off the pool in preparation for opening it up to swimming. Time to watch a couple basketball games and drink some beer.
Today's new beer is Apple Brandy Barrel Noir, an imperial stout aged in apple brandy barrels, with an ABV of 12%.
In my teku it is a very dark brown with a half-inch, quickly dissipating, tan head.
Aroma of booze, sweet fruit, and chocolate.
Apple brandy taste, with some chocolate.
Very smooth. The brandy is quite noticeable, but complimented by the chocolate. I would drink this at room temperature, or near it, to fully appreciated the beer.

Poured into a 13 oz Lost Abbey Teku glass canned on 2/25/19. Pours a very attractive hazy yellow with a 1 sticky white head that leaves some thin patches of Webby lace behind with nice retention. 4

Smell is lemon, apricot, passionfruit, and grapefruit rind. 4

Taste follows lemon, apricot, passionfruit, and grapefruit balanced slightly bitter and tasty. 4

Mouthfeel is about medium, plenty of carbonation, a tad sticky and dry, and extremely drinkable at 5.6%, but more flavor than most at that ABV. 4.25

Overall this is a nice single Hop, with some nice flavors and bitterness, kind of old school in flavor, but the new school hazy look. 4[IMG]

I finally got a chance to leave quarantine. My wife and kids have been sick for the better part of last week. I played nursemaid. Everyone was pretty much back to normal yesterday, but we had the mother-in-law’s birthday to celebrate. This afternoon has been my first chance to get out of the house for a few hours. There is nowhere around that has a great tap list, but there is a decent bbq place around the corner, about 5 minutes walk, that always has something new for me to try. Later this evening I will crack into the box I received in my first foray into the NBS BIF. But, for now, it’s the following.

    Oast House Watering Hole IPA.

Pale straw. Pillowy head that dissipates leisurely, leaving a thin wall of lace on the glass.

Muted aromas. Light lemon. Not much else.

Light lemon and assorted citrus on the tongue. A hint of cereal. Mild bitterness on the finish. Pleasant, if extremely understated.

Crisp, effervescent and quite light in body.

This is an enjoyable, if unadventurous ‘IPA.’ I’d likely never revisit. This sort of fits the ‘craft designed to lure in the non-craft drinker’ category that seems increasingly ubiquitous in my neck-of-the-woods. It isn’t bad, but its hard to justify drinking this when there is so much else easy to hand.

    Cheers! And see you later!

Moving on to another beer from @kemoarps. I swear, this guy sent a never ending box o (fun) beers! Much appreciated again Kestrel!

16ounce can, packaged 1/15/19. Poured into a tulip glass.
Pours a rusty orange, white soapy bead that just stays and stays. Rings of lacing. Crystal clear body.
Aromas of lemon, cereal grains, muted citrus, rustic floral. I don’t know what that means but just sounds right.
Toasted wheat bread, caraway seed, caramel, citrus and pine.
Medium body with easy drinking qualities.
I love when brewers pay attention to what makes their beer great. Extra points for the locality of this wonderful beer.

The Alchemist Luscious British Style Imperial Stout

Happy Sunday, BAs, and congrats to @lordofthewiens and @cjgiant on their first two years of hosting. Much appreciated. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long.

Today’s new beer comes from the generous @brutalfarce as part of NBS BIF #9. I’ve already torn into fantastic beers from Suarez Family, New Glarus, Tree House And Almanac. I’m excited to try my first non-IPA from The Alchemist.

It pours a cherry-tinted motor oil black with two fat fingers of dark tan head that leave rings of lacing.

Roasty malts with a little plum sweetness are most prominent in the nose. There’s some definite carbon dioxide in there, too.

Nice dark malt flavors: roasted malts, a little char, a little molasses, sugar, some more stone fruit, a hint of licorice, and a nice kiss of alcohol. Great mix of dark and sweet.

It’s full bodied and creamy feeling with plenty of carbonation.

Maybe a touch on the sweet side, but this is otherwise a really solid, complex and relatively-balanced imperial stout. A pleasure to try. Thanks, William. :beers:

I had this recently. At first, I loved it and noted: “This is very good. Huge Simcoe nose. Catty, grassy, piney, lemon pithy, light tropical fruity with crackery malt snap. Super light bodied“

As I drank it more though I noted what you’re describing except I said salinity/brineyness.

L: Hazy straw yellow in appearance. 2 fingers of a bubbly off-white cap and moderate lacing.
S: Melon forward, with background aromas of peach, lemon, honey and tangerine.
T: Very fruity. More citrus tasting than the smell would lead on. Grapefruit, orange and tangerine are dominant flavors, with the finish consisting of a sweet honey/lemon complex. Mild yeast presence throughout.
F: Medium in body and in weight. Moderate amounts of carbonation for the style. Booze is not detectable.
O: An enjoyable offering with an appropriate name. The is a juicy one.

No to each. Mouthfeel is not thin, and is not harsh, but I wouldn't call it soft. There are complex fruity flavors, but, again, I wouldn't call it juicy. It is pretty much an AIPA, only hazy.

Cape May IPA, from Cape May Brewing in Cape May NJ. This beer is a pretty much a standard West Coast IPA but a very good one. Poured from a can it's a pale amber gold with a white head that does not last long. The aroma is pine and citrus. The taste is about the same except the citrus is stronger. The mouthfeel is full. The finish is dry, fruity and lingering. Overall a very enjoyable beer from one of the best breweries in NJ.

I sure do remember and I have to tell you, I don't miss it. We had 3-4 days of snow and one morning there was an inch on the ground, and it was gone by noon. That, plus pictures like this, more than satisfy my snow "yearnings."

It seems like there are more and more of these sorts of beers: a 'regular' American-style IPA but with a non-clear appearance. Given the popularity of the Juicy/Hazy IPA beer style I wonder if this will cause market place confusion? Or maybe beer consumers will be OK with it as long as the beer tastes good to them?

    Cheers!

My niece's father in law left Michigan about 25 years ago to move to Texas. He still talks about the unpleasantness of snow after all of these years.

My brother in law when he moved to Texas used a photograph of his old house in PA with snow covering his front lawn as his desktop on his computer to remind him why he moved to Texas.

Yup, snow is not for everybody!

    Cheers!

    Synopsis:
I’ve had Upland sours before, but this is my first time trying their ipas. This beer is chock-full of orange flavor. Specifically, ripe orange slices, drizzled with honey and a little caramel. A bit on the sweet side, but the juicy orange flavor is a standout. Super-clean middle and finish, with no distracting flavors. I could see some people calling this too juicy, as it is one-dimensional...but the one thing it does, it nails. Thanks again for sending me this Dayton!

Nice beige head on this opaque beer. Some decent lacing as well. Nose pops pine laced with earthiness, barely a bit of coffee and finishes with a little sweetness. Before the taste, I’m taken back by how shockingly thin this is. Almost thin enough to influence the taste, but not quite. Taste is pretty brilliant as it starts with a little dankness followed by pine and grassy upon exit. Aftertaste is very bitter, pleasantly so. Overall it’s a terrific tasting beer.

L-The beer pours a dark brown with plum colored edges. The head is 1 and a half inches of tan bubbles. This recedes to a large central island with accompanying ring. Lacing is spotty.
S-The nose is nutty bread mixed with chocolate. Intensity is on the lighter side of medium.
T-The flavors confirm what the nose suggested. Dark nutty bread mixed evenly with a not quite dark chocolate presence. Not complicated, but very enjoyable.
F-Mouthfeel overall is on the fuller side of light. Carbonation is light. Drinkability is excellent.
O-Just a really nice example of a Munich Dunkel. I'd will certainly repurchase when I see it again. Recommended.

Hi everybody, rainy here, rivers are flowing and roads getting washed out with the snow melt.

Starting off with a kind of odd brew.
Labeled a Black Gose with raspberries and milk sugar.

Pours a dark purple with a thick and foamy red tinted tan head.

Aroma doesn’t jump out of the glass but includes tart berries and some dark malt.

Flavor is tart, light mineral, fresh and sweet berries followed by a big roasted malt presence. Sweet and creamy.

Creamy body, medium with light carbonation.

Overall an interesting brew, not sure the flavors all come together, but nice fresh berry flavor.
