Has anyone else had issues with their smell/taste being affected by head colds? The past several years, I have become increasingly sensitive to hay fever allergens, and had sinus inflammation. The past 2 weeks, I've had a head cold that has almost completely shorted out my sense of taste and smell.

I know I became increasingly interested in craft beers, and stronger, more-hopped varieties of beer about the same time that my sensitivities increased, 5 or 6 years ago. That could be coincidental, but I have a terrible fear that I'm becoming more and more "allergic to beer." If that's even a thing.

Hope it's all in my mind...

I've never not had a head cold or any cold that didn't screw with my sense of smell or taste. Whenever I get sick I usually just take a few days off from drinking until it clears out.

I get what you're saying. Usually for me, any kind of head cold has resulted in SOME effect to my senses, but it has usually been mild. I'm at the other end of the spectrum on this one, where I can smell/taste almost nothing.

As a result, I am taking time off from expecting to taste, and from drinking in general, just hoping I can get it back to 100%.

Sorry to hear about your problem @sliv, but this really isn't an appropriate question or discussion topic for BA. My recommendation is that you speak to a doctor and get an actual professional opinion about your problem, rather than asking the BA community to take a stab at it, and/or share their experiences to see if it might somehow be similar to yours.

    Am shutting this down.
