I’ve been burned out on hoppy offerings for quite a while now in particular. I don’t order them at breweries and I avoid buying them as much as possible (girlfriend will get them via trades and such, so I still drink them when she wants/has them). Or when she really wants something in particular at the store.

Instead, lagers are huge for me and continue to dominate what I want to drink. Classic porter/stout, AAL’s, smoked beers, hefe's/wits, etc… Last week, I even bought tall boys of Bud and Miller High Life to enjoy… First time having High Life and was pleasantly surprised, would buy again. For hoppy stuff when I do want it, I have been reaching for things like Founder’s All Day IPA, SN Pale Ale, Stone Thunder Lager, etc…

My palate is just sick of the super hoppy, adjunct stouts and extreme offerings. I just want clean, well made beer. Sick of dumping $5 cans because they suck, which is way too often… So I go back to the breweries I trust and their flagships… It’s been awesome to revisit those beers more often and understand why they are as popular as they are. No gimmicks, just well made and do exactly what you expect. Sometimes, that is all you want... So that is what I have been reaching for!

I see this all around me, but I happy to say it does not impact me personally. I will always favor trusted breweries and their stalwart offerings. Why? Because I want to see them stick around. This cunty flavor of the week BS is not sustainable and thrives on something I find irksome and detrimental to those who have forged the paths for American brewing.

Flagship month? No thank. I will give my support all year long.

I get me a good bourbon or scotch and sip on that for about a month. Or, I'll drink tons of water for a month and nothing else, just to clean out a bit.

When I see SNPA for $12.88/12 pack at Safeway, I realize I should have beer burnout on $4-6 cans of hoppy beer.

Been there too, the best way to avoid it is proper avoidance. I just simply refuse to drink mediocre ipas, I just don’t buy them. Hence more aals of all things and more better Pils and or Lagers. I find I really enjoy these and when I do drink an ipa of whatever flavor I really enjoy it. Just reduce your intake of hoppy, add aals, maybe even a glass of red wine here or there.

My only burnout, if I may call it that is with styles for example pumpkin beers. I love a good pumpkin beer, but there are just so many out there some greater than others. It seems like a race every year to pump them out earlier. Used to see them in September late August now I’ve seen them in July. So by thanksgiving when I want to really enjoy them I’m sick of them and have move on to the seasonal BA stouts.

Hop burnout and being bored with a style are imo two very different things. Ones mental the other is physical, hop burnout in my experience is quite real and it’s a true repulsion to anything remotely hoppy. I’ve had it to the point that even Miller Lite wasn’t working. My first trip to Vt was a ridiculous volume of anything ipa I could pour down my neck, got home and I was truly giving growlers of Hill Farmstead away. Only wine and bourbon/gin were drinkable.

I recall a couple of years ago when I was playing in a golf outing, I had been drinking Busch light all day. The cart girl came around and asked if anyone needed a drink and she happened to have SNPA pints so I grabbed one. After the first sip I declared that it was literally one of the best tasting beers I'd ever had. Now I've had SNPA probably 100 times before that and it is a very well crafted, delicious standby. However, this time it tasted about 1000X better than it ever has before just because I was comparing it to the flavored water known as Busch Light!

Amen! After over 35 years of drinking, I'm relatively new to the craft beer scene. I'very drank several over the years, but have mainly been a big brewery beer consumer. I never really have ever suffered from any kind of burnout as such, but I have had periods of switching to hard liquor for a time. I have come to see that craft beers in general are probably more high end in general over the big guys. But I can damn sure do without the beer snobbery and attitude put off by many in the scene. Perfect example, out in Asheville here in NC they have kicked Wicked Weed Brewing out of their little club because they 'dared' to sign with a high end unit of one of the big boys. Wicked Weed is easily in the top 3 brewers in Asheville, possibly the best. The term sellout is used towards them, and maybe fitting from the craft scene, but I wonder if this is really anger or more jealousy/resentment towards them as Wicked Weed is good enough to produce their product at a consistently high enough level. With the others thinking/knowing they can't.

My senior year of college was when craft exploded. I was always the guy that wasn’t drinking a Busch light, and people would always ask what I was drinking. Guiness would be my day drink of choice, I’d pick up some otter creek for discount price at my local liquor store cause it was $6 for a 12 pack. No one wanted to drink it. If you brew beer, I doubt you could ever experience a burnout. I love drinking different styles and exploring beer as much as I can, as it is a great way to pinpoint exactly where I want to go with a particular style that I am brewing. It’s more or less a learning experience. The only type of burnout I experience is from hazy IPAs that use a lot of adjuncts... just gotta mix in a robust porter or stout!! Cheers

Been a long long time since I had beer burnout. Just too much good beer around everywhere all the time, hard to keep up!

I figured out that for me beer burnout is more about style burnout, and its usually when I've had one too many mundane IPAs or when I've maxed out on NEIPAs. It's tough not drinking every IPA made, but when I need a break I'll go European or RIS.

To a degree, it’s nice to keep switching things up. Drink enough Pils and even that will wear on you, for me it’s just the hops that induce the fatigue. I don’t drink idling ipas anymore other it’s a waste of money and palate
