"Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill. At the first sip this naturally cloudy, amber-orange-colored Kellerbier reveals a touch of caramel. Its fresh and fruity aroma is owed to the chosen hops and accompanied by a pleasant bitterness. In combination with a well-balanced malt body this wonderfully mild and smooth beer was created to please both, your tongue and mind."

    5.6% ABV, 25 IBU

1516 was incredible when it came out a few years ago! I have been hoping it would make a return ever since.

It is coming soon, along with a non-alcoholic Hefeweissbier, as well.

    Marketing goons go wild.

2 questions come to mind first: Will it be the same recipe? Will it be the same price tag?

THIS IS FANTASTIC. I had recently just been thinking about how much I missed this beer ... so glad it'll be coming back over.

I thought Kellerbier was a staple of Weihenstephaner all year round. Brooklyn Brewery cloudy Pils claims it is spot on for Kellebier. I must say It is damn close-

Its listed on their website as year round, but it hasn't been available in the US as a year round offering.

Interesting. I've had the 1516 before but I don't recall being blown away by it. I went to check my score for it but my review isn't there. Did it get lost? Did I somehow not review it? Who knows. I can at least recall that it was pretty good so I'll grab a sixer and review it again.

    Fuck yeah, NA Hefeweizen!

But seriously, all I remember is that I enjoyed it at times, and at others it had some astringency to it. All depending on how much of the dregs got in there.

I look forward to experimenting further.

    Plus, guaranteed fresh Weihenstephan!

I wonder how they will keep the 1516 fresh. From what I understand, a traditional Zwickel/Kellerbier is unfiltered and unpasteurized, so how will they ensure that the bier doesn’t go bad? I suppose it’s the same question for the Weiß as well.

I missed out on 1516 the last time it came around; definitely keeping my eyes peeled for this.

Glad I'm not the only one who's pretty excited for this. I don't drink much NA beer mostly because they all taste like shit for the most part, but a nice banana/clove/yeasty hefeweizen would probably really go down a lot nicer than your typical cereal grain swill.

I always pour the dregs into my weizens....does NA hefeweizen dregs have a certain "quality" that makes this inadvisable?

Jim, FWIW that would be my position as well. I reviewed this beer in a New Beer Sunday thread:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-beer-sunday-week-582.407559/#post-4697030

I asked my local Retail Beer Distributor to special order me a case and I was quite disappointed by the high price for this beer - somewhere between 50 - 60 bucks as I recall. If this time around the beer is priced similarly (e.g., around15 bucks a 6-pack) this beer will be a pass for me. It is a nice enough beer but not worthy of a high price.

    Cheers!

It was a major disappointment on its first release. In fact, I still have 3 at the back of the fridge.

I thought he was talking about the 1516 for that part, because this is the first we've seem to heard about the NA Hefe.

Why do I have the feeling that the only sixers I'll see in stores are the leftovers from the first release?

Should have put in the winky face. I was kidding.

Although I am curious what it will taste like.

    Yes, yes I was.

I would uh, not go to that store anymore.

Hah. I see that now. Seriously, it's thinned out, but I've seen it on shelves around here since the last release -- and at the same $14 a six-pack.
