Saw a Horus IPA in the Mercer County area. I know Horus Aged Ales is known for his BA stouts, but this was a nice NE IPA (Osprey's Next Catch Season Seven) with Citra, Mosaic and Loral hops from off-shoot brewery Horus Fresh Ales.

Just to follow up on this my local store said pretty much all the cans they recieved from the distributor of TG are only 2-3 weeks out from the best by date. They were pretty pissed about it and seems like they are debating sending them back to the distributor. Just a heads up to all if you see any TG, check the dates on the can as it sounds like they sent old stock out here to kick off the NJ launch...

    Probably worth waiting awhile...

In the past it has been common for a distributor to screw up registering a new beer with the state ABC, delaying the legal release of the beer because it did not make the deadline for the next month's CPL. A wholesaler's license can be suspended for selling a beer not listed in the current CPL.
No idea if that's the case here, but with all the other possible problems with shipping a beer half way across the country to a new market, compounded perhaps by Sarene's out-of-state location, it wouldn't be unusual. OTOH, since Sarene's already been distributing TB in NYS you'd think they'd have fresher beer to delivery to its NJ retailers?

Good luck with that - especially with a beer that is still not quite yet out of code. Again, no knowledge of Sarene's return/exchange policy but the time to check the dates, whether you're a customer or a retailer, is before you accept the delivery/buy it.

how far out is "best by" date from the "canned on" date? Never see best by dating on small local craft stuff...

I don’t know what the best buy date is but the Mosaic and Galaxy Sue bottles I saw this morning were 2/22 I believe. Didn’t check the dates on the cans.

I saw Pseudo Sue cans dated 1/31/2019. Kind of disappointed.

Some breweries will simply list the canning date on the cans/bottles and others a suggested best by date. So it varies brewery to brewery how they display it. I'm sure you;ve seen some posts on here where people debate how fresh they like to have beers, generally IPAs are more important to have fresh as hops fade with time. I like to drink IPAs within 1-2 months after the cannign date - some mroe quickly than others. Personally I think Kane beers hold up very well while stuffy like Heady Topper falls off quick after a month. Ultimately it comes down to personal opinion and taste.

Yea I didn't actually check the cans, they didn't even have them on the floor. Just took the wine manager and one of the beer guys opinion on it, said they were old and close to the best by dates and they wouldn't recommend getting them given how old they were. I'm happy to wait as my fridge is pretty stocked up and I'm meeting a buddy from out of town at OH this weekend.

I was not very excited about Ghost Hawk until I looked at their map. This place is right down the street from Rutts Hut. Buy a bag of Rippers and head to the brewery!

Had one also and agree. If stuff like this is available in bottle shops fresh there is no reason to trek to breweries.

Looks like Pompeii, Golden Nugget, and the lager are now in SJ...which of these is the best to try? All I've heard about is the Sue beers...

That’s how I feel I’ve felt a while now. So much amazing and affordable, local and fresh beer in stores these days.

Had anyone seen the new prima pils cans in NJ yet? Or river trip by allagash?

Curious to try the “tweaked” prima but it is hard to improve on perfection but I’m excited to see if I can even notice a difference.
