Prepped the balcony the other day and today I'm having a first, of many, balcony beer of the season.

Amager Bryghus Pink Farts & Unicorns, 4.6% ABV india pale lager. Besides having one of the best names for a beer ever it's a citrusy and refreshing lager. Super crushable for warm days on the balcony. Might need to stock up on these and hope for a long and warm summer.

Early morning beer. Uncle Dom from Bull&Bush is the second brut IPA for me, and so far I am not too excited about this style.

Back on this stuff here ba. Decent, but it just doesn't do what it once did for me. Gots a whole 6’er, so going to kill it regardless,

A rather unique beer experience brought to me by @micada.

The idea is that Yours (a chocolate stout) and Mine (a raspberry sour), although two distinct beers, actually are intended to be blended together (proportions left up to the pourer).

First, Mine (beer on the left) --

    3.49/5 rDev 0%
    look: 2.75 | smell: 3 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.25

Pours a dark rosé red with lively, bubbly carbonation that fades away to nothing. A mild fruit jam aroma. Tart and sweet flavors with a strong raspberry component. Medium-heavy body; acidic; weighty sweetness throughout.

This is one of two beers created by War Horse (the other is 'Yours', a chocolate stout) that, according to both cans, are meant to be blended together. As a standalone fruit sour, this seems rather heavy handed although the taste sure matches the description, but the other components of the beer experience are fairly lame.

Second, Yours (beer on the right) --

    3.85/5 rDev 0%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Nearly black body with a big, creamy head; a few minor splotches of foam dot the glass inside. Very nice aroma comprised of roasted grains and baker's chocolate. Rich milk chocolate and cocoa flavors; vanilla; sweet yet nicely offset with a balanced bitterness. Heavy body; smooth and velvety on the palate.

This is one of two beers produced by War Horse (the other is 'Mine' - a raspberry sour) that were made to be blended together. As a stand-alone chocolate stout, this one is pretty tasty. Rich and creamy throughout, delivering a most satisfying taste experience.

Finally, the combined beers (middle glass, unmeasured but roughtly 1/3 Mine, 2/3 Yours) --

A decent little blend that reminds me a bit of chocolate and cherry candies. In this case, I like the earthiness of the chocolate stout that tames the overt sourness of the sour. On the other hand, the raspberry tartness does add a delectable twist and expansion to the chocolate stout's darker character.

I switched things up and reversed the relative proportions and didn't really care for the stronger raspberry version. It just seemed kind of muddied in character overall.

So, an interesting concept. As individual beers, my nod is towards the stout. It has more depth and character than the raspberry sour. Mixing the two beers is an interesting idea, and if I had a few more cans of each, I might experiment more with various combinations of the two. As it is, with only a single can each, I definitely prefer the stout (and would buy it again if found) and, if mixing the two, prefer a stronger stout presence with just a touch of the sour to shake things up some.

I see Hi Wire in my local stores....how are their stouts? I visited them years ago in Asheville and enjoyed the couple of IPAs I tried.

Cloudwater / To Ø Christmas Cake imperial Stout. Now is probably not the most wonderful time to open this one, but I was getting somewhat curious over time.

Awesome when you love Christmas cake and beer. The stout is rather heavy. Could make a nice pairing with a good Cuban cigar. Only guessing about that at this moment

    Cheers!
