Let’s go back in time when the availability of goods was truly local. What would you drink on a daily basis that’s regularly brewed within 100 miles from your home? Regular lineup, no one offs.

Well, I pretty much do this as is. Seattle is less than 100 miles from me, and I don't even drink a ton of Seattle Beer. Seattle likely just has a thin edge over Bend, as far the amount of "away" beer is concerned.

But, the majority of beer I drink is made in less than a 5 mile radius.

I drink mostly BA beers, and there aren't any brewed locally in a regular lineup. There are some decent non-BA beers but to drink exclusively local I'd have to make my own BA beers.

100 miles from my home would cover , most of NJ, NYC, Most of Long Island The Hudson Valley and parts of NE Penn. I would be able to buy just about any style of beer I want

Hmm, not to be contrary but I don’t believe that’s really ever been the case where I’ve lived, btw I grew up in the Philly suburbs and now live in NC.

Back in the day we all drank macros and toyed with Sam Adams, a few like Ortliebs and Schmidt’s were local, but if there were craft offerings I’m unaware. So time stamp 1980 -1995 or so.

Moved here, and I picked up were I left off, macros then onto English Porters and ESBs, mainly Fullers but some Bluebird etc. Don't remember when but my drifting into ipas began with Hop Devil, and DFH 60 minute. Local beers were about unknown, and Cali beers dominated the shelves.

The last year or two more locals and diminishing Cali beers, and diminishing beers from outside the state. DFH 60/90, Hop Devil I cant find anymore, so the switch to local is a bit forced. But beers from Foothills, Burial, others Asheville breweries though outside the 100 mile radius are pretty good. But there’s more than a few that for the $11-12 sixer price is unsustainable. The counter is the beers from Cali are for the most part 8 months old or worse, I still see beers on the shelf canned last summer. So I might get a bit pissy and go back to a macro for a bit.

:astonished: In the US, at least, that's pretty far back. You could buy Albany ale and New York porter in Louisiana 200 years ago as well as Albany double ale in NC and N.O.

(Heck, further back and, industry legend has it that the Pilgrims "self-imported" their beer from the UK).

Well, as discussed previously  what one drank and what was available are often very different lists. Certainly, as far as "craft beer" goes, Dock Street, Trupert (Joe Ortlieb's new brand), William Penn, Penn Pilsner, the re-born Neuweiler and Stoudt's were all being sold in some Phila. area distributors during that era.

None of those beers were on our radar, we honestly just drank whatever, a good deal of the time Rolling Rock Pony’s. I was aware of beers like Pete’s Wicked and or Blackened Voodoo, but the game was how cheap could I go and still find drinkable beers. Hence Gibbons and Reading in the flip top cardboard box’s. But the beers you listed I’ve never seen before, except Dock Street, in that timeframe.

I would drink Singlecut Half-Stack IPA. The brewery is 5 miles from my house.
Pretty simple, not sure what other people are talking about.

There are places in this world still that aren't bastions of overcrowded civilization.
As for me, within 100 miles of me I have more beer than I could ever drink. In no particular order....

And on and on. There is a place in South Fork that uses all locally sourced malts, hops, and water, and their mixed cultures were sourced locally as well. I haven't been, but that's as local as it gets. Every part of the beer is grown and processed within 100 miles.

My wife and I keep fairly local for food. Local Coop always has local farm meats and veggies. I try to keep a decent stock of our garden veggies frozen or prepared for during the winter months. Have chickens for eggs and local dairy milk delivery.

For beer my habits would mostly be the same (personal purchases). I mostly buy beer from Hill Farmstead and River Roost. Two of the closest breweries to where I live or work. HF about 50 miles and R Roost about 20. 20 miles is about how far I'd need to drive to get to the closest sign of civilization anyways.

I mentioned personal purchases of beer above. I do get a lot of non-local stuff via trades and BIF's. I guess that would need to stop based on your scenario.

If I am choosing specific beers from the breweries I mentioned above I would choose Mas Verde and Glimpse from River Roost then Double Galaxy, Florence and Everett from Hill Farmstead. I stuck to options that are available very consistently (no limited release or one off brews)

I feel bad leaving Heady Topper off my list. They are within 65 miles and I can buy at the closest gas station to my house. But at this point I drink a heck of a lot more River Roost IPA/DIPA.

Within 100 miles, it would be tiny bomb from wiseacre and traffic from Crosstown Brewing. Within a hundred fifty miles it would be the southern Grist and Bearded Iris stuff

I used to drink a lot of Saranac beers. They rotated many styles and variety packs.
I remember almost always having their Black Forest available in my apartment.
Was also lucky to have New England Brewing elm city lager and amber readily available too.

Yeah, what set me on my path was hardly local- very likely several MdV brands, early 80's (Aass, Samuel Smith's...).

It would be tough to choose just one, although it would likely be Central Waters Shine On ale.
